I wouldn't say that.  There are some loose ends that need to be cleaned up, but I found the previous PRV 100% unusable for most of my projects because it was impossible for me to deal with multiple controllers.  The new one is a big improvement, but just a little tedious here and there. I can't see any advantage in go back to an earlier release.

Hm, you don't find it messy or disturbing to see all tracks in the track pane to the right? Or hard to pick the right track from that huge unfiltered list (that weirdly also includes audio)? Or find it inconvenient that the filter stays put when opening the PRV again... at least I rarely edit the same tracks in a row.

Sorry, I don't mean to sound harsh, I'm just curious. :)

Also, I'probably one of few being annoyed by the fact that the new track pane requires more horizontal space... as I'm still on dual 1280x1024 monitors. :) Screen estate is valuable!

Anyway it's great to see the PRV getting attention, let's make it even better!

About my question 3: "How to display multiple controllers? The option is inaccessible", any help?

Clicking on "View/Show Multiple Lanes" in the PRV works for me, unless I'm misunderstanding your question. I can display one controller lane or by selecting show multiple lanes, I can display any or all of the controller lanes that I desire.

Oh, boy, it was there all the time...
Thank you Walt.
However there are still several problems that hamper the workflow, as I have tested and also I have seen complaints in the forum.
In addition to several bugs.
I hope this is corrected soon.

Why is it "Weird" that audio tracks show up ?
a few others have also agreed. having Audio tracks show up in the PRV is great for Solo/Mute to match up Audio and Midi tracks. Just because that's not the way you work doesn't mean its "weird". it simply means it doesn't fit in your particular work flow.

All you have to do is click the filter widget to show those selected tracks in the Track pane.
And Use "H" as a short cut to show/hide the Pane if real estate is a concern.

If the PRV screen has focus (active screen) just type H, and it will hide the track pane. Hit H again and it brings it back. You can also use the >> arrows on the top right.

I normally have audio and MIDI tracks in my project and in the PRV I only want to see MIDI tracks available to edit. I also keep all of my MIDI tracks at the bottom in the track view. It's a simple matter of clicking on the first "golf tee" symbol (for lack of a better name) on the right of the PRV track pane, hold left click down and slide the mouse down, enabling all of the MIDI track flags. By toggling "Filter" you can hide/unhide all of the audio tracks. You can also have custom filters (nameable) to set up different setups. i.e. certain MIDI tracks combined with certain Audio tracks if so desired.

A. You can adjust the size of the track pane and B. as mentioned above, you can hide when not needed.

My cowboy hat off to the Bakers for doing a great job on the PRV!

Hope this is helpful.

Great post. Whenever there are major changes, there will be a period of getting used to them...but after absorbing that part of the learning curve, you can take advantage of the improvements. Or as the French say..."Reculer pour mieux sauter."

On balance, I find the new PRV a major improvement over the previous incarnation. No way I'd roll back.

I couldn't use PRV AT ALL before if I was using MIDI files brought over from Finale or BIAB because they typically had 4 or 5 controllers per track.  That was practically impossible with a single track and multi-track PRV was out of the question.

The new IU has some problems that I would like to see cleaned up, such as you mentioned. These all strike me as very, very simple clean-up items that should be corrected in April.

You mentioned some persistence issues with the PRV. I have some general complaints about persistence. In particular if I have moved windows to separate monitors, that is all lost every time I start Sonar. I could live with that, but the "track manager" selections are not persistent either, and there is really no excuse for that.  I never need to see the Metronome fader or the rightmost fader that corresponds to the audio interface.  It is a real PITA to have to go back through all of this every time I start Sonar.  That stuff should be saved with the project.

I am just finishing a little project that I started on Friday after updating to 2007-03. It is a song I wanted to do anyway and this gave me a chance to practice with the new UI. This integrates MIDI tracks from Finale (scanned from manuscript) and tracks from BIAB, plus some MIDI I have entered directly into SONAR and some WAV files. Basically a little of everything.  I found the PRV very usable despite the various issues that have been mentioned.

Agree 100%
I had a similar issue that was driving me crazy where every time I opened sonar it was showing tracks I had hidden before saving the project. In my case anyway, it turned out to be Lenses.
I don't even use Lenses but I had played around with it once and it had set up a template of sorts that continued to display the same view I had when I created this experimental Lens.

I deleted the Lens setting and set it to "None" and the problem went away.
This might not be your problem but I figured to throw it out there.

Interesting.
Does this mean that if there are 4 controller lanes you can just choose to see only the 2 that you want to see and the other 2 are hidden?

Yes Steve. In fact this is how I managed the controller lanes before this update. Say you have 4 controller lanes that have data on them and you want to work on 2 of them. Click on the minus sign of the 2 lanes you want to close. You now have the 2 lanes left that you want to work on. If you want to bring back the other two lanes, click on the + sign on the bottom left and type which lane(s) you desire to add. The data will still be on the lane.

The previous implementation of the controller lanes worked a little better. If you closed lanes by clicking on the - sign, and then wanted to bring it back, you could click on the + sign on any lane and choose from a list of active controller lanes that have data on them. (The lanes that were closed were in bold letters).

I think this area of the PRV could be improved, by adding a filter just like the track pane implementation. That way you easily filter in controller lanes that you want displayed.

You can still display multiple controller lanes. You will find the option under View>Show Multiple lanes.
Then you can click the + sign to add another lane.
If you want to see only one lane turn the option off again and then you have one lane you can select the various controllers that you want to edit.

I'm not sure why the option under controllers to display multiple controllers is greyed out. Perhaps is should be removed completely.
