I know there are advantages using UWP MIDI engine in Windows 10 reading the Cakewalk notes.
However can you please tell me why I would use MME on Windows 10 now with new Sonar release, and why is UMP is not new default for Windows 10?

I have MIDI WRK projects (782 all up) that I have sequenced in Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 that, when I load into Sonar Platinum with the MIDI driver mode set to UWP, the patches for the individual tracks do not get initialised properly. 

Most tracks get set to piano instead of the intended patch.

When I change the MIDI driver mode back to MME, these WRK files play correctly.

These files are MIDI only and contain no audio. 

All of these WRK files are being sent, via a MIDI out connection to an external XG sound module.  They are specifically sequenced with the right controller and sysex information for that module.

For me, I am staying with MME as I need these WRK files to play correctly when I load them into Sonar Platinum.

They probably didn't want to risk breaking an entire installed base of midi tracks all at once so they let you turn it on and try it. After all, it's Microsoft's thing.

And we're a long way from Windows 10 being the default OS for Sonar users.

well, I tried UWP and it does not work with the devices I use (Eventide, MOTU, ...) so I'm back to MME

For me too! It does not work well with M-AUDIO PROJECTMIX

Will it eventually replace MME for Windows 10 when it is all working? I know it will take some time.
