Greetings,
 
I want to setup a stereo master fader that I can mix multi-tracks down to where I can add 2 separate compressors on the stereo mix as follows:
 
1st compressor on Master Left and 2nd compressor on Master Right. 
 
I want to do this because I want to compress my mix but I do NOT want a Tom tom hit on the left channel to drag down the level of the right channel? I want the compressors completely independent of each other.
 
This use to be easy to do with a real analogue console with a patch bay, but I am perplexed as to how to do it with Sonar. It seems that compressors across the buss are always side chain linked.
 
How do I do this in Sonar?
 
I would appreciate your help.

Check out the Channel Tools - you send to two busses and then limit each to the Left or Right channel.

I'm not sure I see where you are going with that. Could you give me a little more detail?

I appreciate the details you provided. I will check this out but it does seems more than I would like to setup for something this simple. 
 
I think I block myself with my analogue background. Time to think anew!

Maybe check different compressor plugins, for ones that can "unlink" L and R. I know the Waves API 2500 compressor does this. I'm sure others will too...

This is harder than you will like...

1. Route tracks to a master bus
2. Send to master 2 left and pan left
3. Send to master 2 right and pan right
4. Set master 2 left and right buses to mono interleave and add compressors
5. Route both to master 3, panned appropriately

Different from using the sends with panning, you could use channel tools in master 2 mono buses to constrain each to appropriate signal for compression.

You could also do Multiband limiting independently.

If you still have a hardware compressor, you can use it with Sonar as an External Insert.
