I have been using Cakewalk products for several yrs (GuitarTracks, etc) and have used X1 Producer for about a yr. I use basic features to create demos for my band and consider myself a novice. I just received my first VS700 system this week. Now I'm in "setup hell" as the install disk only covered Windows XP/Vista and I'm running Windows 7. So I found the correct driver online and it installed OK, but the VS700 Software install from the disk halted right after the file extraction. Is this normal? I had Sonar X1 pre-installed and I'm getting sound from the headphone jack but I can't even get the console transport to start/stop play. I checked the program list from the Windows control panel and the only thing listed is the VS700 driver. I only have the IO cable connected to the console, as instructed in the "getting started" guide. Should I connect the USB cable as well? Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

Make sure you go into Controlllers/Surfaces and set up the VS700 as your controller with Console in the in and out ports listed. Do not connect the USB cable if you are using the in/out cable to the V700R. The only USB cable should be the one connecting the V700R to the PC-DAW.

Well folks, thanks anyway, but found the issue. Just needed to get my bearings straight on the support page. Roland support was useless but Cakewalk support page provided guidance for correct setup with Windows 7.

For the benefit of other newbies like me, here are a couple things I learned - The Roland support page pointed me to V2.0 driver version for Windows 7 support. According to the Cakewalk support page, v2.0 driver requires the 1.3 firmware update for both the console and the IO unit. For a simpler initial setup, the v1.0 driver is recommended and is what i re-installed. The Roland support page did not mention this, at least not via my search path. There were settings within Sonar that I had to change to make it recognize the VS700c as the DAW surface. I skimmed over this in the "getting started" guide since it was in the "Installing Sonar" section and I already had the software on my computer. My bad.

I can't get sonar to interact with the VS700 console. In the controllers/surfaces dialogue box the VS700c doesn't show up as an option to choose. How do I get Sonar Platinum to recognize the existence of the VS700 console?

You'll need to install the control surface plugin: https://www.cakewalk.com/...-in-version-1-2-update
