  • Stumped Again.....Sampling Rate Issue

I need to get my default sampling rate set at 44 and 16. Some of my projects were set to 48 before I decided to keep everything at cd quality. We're basically making demos. We would record in a "real" studio" if the music takes.

You can see my "stuff" below.........

The sticky wicket is that new MixControl that comes which is way more than just a driver. I tried just using the beta but same issue.

I think I need to change the sampling rate of a few projects to 44k to solve my issue. I want everything to be done @44/16 for the foreseeable future.

Or am I not seeing the problem correctly?

And as always THANKS!!!

Normally, SONAR adopts whatever sample rate you used last as the default for new projects. Normally, all you have to do is open a 44.1 KHz project and the next new project you start will assume that sample rate.

Problems can occur if you have multiple projects with mixed rates, because if you open a 48 KHz project, SONAR will then assume that your next new project will be at 48 KHz, too.

The only solution is to get into the habit of checking the sample rate every time you open a fresh project, before you've added any audio to it. Eventually you won't have to worry about it anymore.

BTW, don't bother with 16-bit word lengths. It doesn't buy you anything except smaller exported wave files (all your intermediate files are still going to be 32-bit), and in some cases can degrade audio quality. So just stick with 24 bits for the audio driver.

Yup that's the issue. Now to learn how to change the sample rate....FOUND IT!

THANKS!

New project defaults are picked up from SONAR preferences. The default new project sample rate is set in Preferences > Audio > Driver Settings. The bit depth is set by "Record Bit Depth" in Preferences > File > Audio Data.

It is possible to set the sample rate and bit depth in the New Project dialog

The project sample rate may be changed using the dropdown in Preferences > Audio > Driver Settings until the first audio is recorded in the project. Once audio is recorded in a project SONAR sets the sample rate of the project based on the wave files found in the project. SONAR requires all files in a project use the same sample rate. It will convert imported files on the fly to the project sample rate.

Bit depth may be changed anytime. SONAR can work with a mix of bit depths in a project. SONAR will import files based on the "Import Bit Depth" setting in Preferences > File > Audio Data. Because SONAR can work with a mix of bit depths, changing bit depth does not alter existing files in the project.

My  mistake was starting out at 44 switching to 48 and now back to 44 as my standard.

With the 48khz projects, you know you can export them to 44.1khz

If you need individual files that are 48 kHz project now you can export the tracks individually.

Or you can go to the audio folder that contains all the files/tracks and import them into Sonar into a new project set to 44khz sample rate.

you could even open the 48 k project and open a new project set to 44 k and drag and drop the files between the two.

The program works fine, recording, monitor, etc. until you get to playback. Now the audio is distorted (worbley).

I will give that a shot today!  Thanks mudgel!

Well, it didn't work when I tried to copy paste.... it didn't work when I  tried to import them to a 44k project..

It looks like one track at a time at each sample rate. What a drag...

And i don't understand the export project idea

Are you saying that when you pasted a 48 KHz file into the project its sample rate was not automatically adjusted to 44.1 KHz to match the project?
