Shutdown. I refuse to pay the electric company any more than necessary and studio gear can take up a lot of juice.

My desktop is on 24/7.  There are things that run over night.  Backups.  defrag weekly (Yes it's a non SSD),etc

ditto

I shut down my laptop after every session, for 2 reasons.  The unlikely risk of a power issue, and also my cats sitting on the keyboard and inadvertently pushing a key that does something.

I have a desktop and just don't like the idea of it being left on all the time - maybe it's paying for unnecessary electricity, I don't know. Why would you leave it on all the time when it's not being used? And what about power cuts? Leaving it on makes no sense to me.

I'll qualify my response above:

My machine is connected to a UPS, so if I were to leave it on overnight and we DO get a power cut, we'd be woken by the God awful noise of the UPS alarms kicking in.

My sleep is far too precious.

I shut down my desktop. Even idle it creates a certain amount of heat, which in the warm months (most of them in Austin TX) I then have to get rid of via air conditioning, so then I'm paying twice for electricity.

Same here.  I am on a UPS and have the modem and router connected as well.  I shut off my desktop when done with backups.  The UPS also does line filtering as we sometimes have dirty power in the Las Vegas valley.

My desktop is on 10-12 hours a day and then shut down every night when I'm done. My last PC, a standard issue Dell with Windows XP, was still running fine after 14+ years on this schedule. I did have to replace the graphics card around the 10-year mark.
