Hi, I am kind of new to this software and am looking for something that works as like a melody/riff generator. This is the kind of thing that I am looking for but it appears to be only for Ableton.
Is there any out there that I can find for Sonar?

Band-in-a-box seems to do this but I don't personally use it.  I think there are others if you do a search for MIDI generators or the like. Other here might have some other options as well.

It's pretty affordable. Very handy.

Click on the button inbetween the talent button and the mix it like a pro for me knob.

This probably isn't exactly what you want, but it's still fun.

Band-in-a-Box Soloist and Melodist functions do this. A bit hit and miss, so you will have to experiment with different styles (of which there is a huge range), but it usually comes up with something passable. (And it produces the notation in case you want to get a real person to play it!)

You know one part of me hates these type of things. as a writer I feel like its far to easy to use loops and generators in this age we live in, but we have to start somewhere. I remember the some people thinking I was cutting corners by using a drum machine back in the mid 1980's. So good luck on your venture with this. music can bring so much happiness to ones life and I wish more people could enjoy it like we do.

With said, Try to learn an instrument to progress yourself further in to the realm.
this will only help you in your creative challenges and bring you more happiness. With better tools and knowledge, it becomes easier to pull those ideas from your mind.

Chuck, I know exactly what you mean but for some of us, sometimes it's where we end up.  Check out the bass line creator tip. What's cool about something like this is it can take you out of a rut, but the real value comes when you take something like a loop and chop it up, mix and match, and so on. Although the audio example shows an untweaked line to get the point across, it's very easy to put your own stamp on something, and pick up where the machines leave off.

I know quite a few DJs who were very good at what they did, but became frustrated that they couldn't always find the kinds of tracks they wanted...so they learned instruments and recording. But they came to that with the advantage of already having a background in how to put sounds together, so they got up to speed on arranging and mixing really fast.

Loops, DJing, and riff generators can be the "gateway drug" to music...

A long time ago, I remember reading... something about using the Session Drummer (1) loops as your Session Guitarist. I can't recall if it was in MC 2003, MC Pro 24 or somewhere on the Cakewalk FAQ page, or Helpful Hints.
Never tried it, though.
