My computer is still i think the very first one that was released

Not sure what you're asking, sorry. Will try to help if you rephrase the question.

I,m still have a major issue with the start screen on the desk top
It is the first one, very plain and basic no notification on the right
Command center and software all up to date, someone must know something about this ?
The start screen on my laptop how ever is very different it shows the currant start screen
With the notification tab in the top right hand corner
Not a real joy

Do you mean the notification at the upper right of the Start Screen, like here?

If so, from the main pull-down menus choose Help > About SONAR and check the specific version of SONAR that you're running?  The Start Screen has changed over time, depending on the version of SONAR installed. 

Is it a joke?

Yes it's the latest version, all software is up to date, iv checked preferences settings on the laptop, and noted what is checked
The desktop has the same boxes ticked, but still no notification icons in the top right hand corner? Its crazy to say the least
