So I've looked on the forum and found similar posts but, no luck here. I've tried to insert SD3 into the synth rack as a simple instrument and as midi source, synth track folder, first synth audio output with the same result. What is hapenning is when I select a kit from SD3, I can hit the pads and hear the resulting audio. As soon as I go to my track view and play a midi sequence, I can see the meter move on the midi drum track but get no audio output from SD 3. If I go back to SD3, now I can't hear the audio when I hit the pads. It will come back when I re-select the drum kit but, when I go back to the track view the same thing happens. No audio output from SD3. I have never had this problem before and been using Cakewalk since the Pro Audio days so I'm not exactly a newbie. Any ideas??

The only way I can replicate your problem is by muting the clip. And Instrument tracks are pretty hard to screw up. If you can hear the samples by by clicking a drum in the kit you should be able to hear the clip play. Hmmmm. When you insert the synth as a simple instrument track, are you checking only that button, with no other options? Other than opening the synth properties?

If the midi data wasn't getting to the soft synth that would cause your problem so using just an instrument track, with no other tracks involved, should work. Again, hmmmmm.

Yes, long hmmmmmm. When inserting the synth I'm only checking simple instrument and synth properties. Like you said, it seems the midi data doesn't get through to the soft synth. If I try it with TTS-1, it works fine. Just not with SD3.

Tell me more about this Midi sequence the synth won't play. Did you compose it yourself? If the notes are too high, or too low, they won't trigger any drums. In the PRV of the Instrument Track, can you hear sounds when entering them there?

No, it's a midi file I downloaded but as I said it plays in TTS-1 and as fara as I know the notes are not too high and correspond to the correct instruments.

The I suggest looking at the Event List for the track and see if there is anything in there other than NOTE events.

Also check the Sysx (system exclusive) view for that track to see if there is anything in there. Midi files you find on the web are made for GM modules and SD3 isn't a GM module.

If the Midi tracks are sending data to the soft synth that it can't process it might be gumming up the works. Many Midi files have things embedded in them that you can't see unless you look for it.

Can you hear the sounds when you enter notes in the drum track's PRV?

Thanks, you were right. The other events were "gumming" it up. I have seen that before but, it's been awhile since I've used someone elses midi file. Thanks for the reminder!!!

I'm having just about the exact same issue.

Using Sonar X1 with X1a patch, 64 bit.  Line 6 Toneport ASIO audio drivers (current).

When I insert SD from track template (only way I can find to insert it), it inserts all the tracks, routing looks right.  When I click the drums in the synth, I get sound and the appropriate track and bus meters move.  When I play a pattern from within the synth, I get sound and proper meters again.  When I drag a clip directly from session drummer into the midi track that opens with all the other tracks and hit play in my project, only the meter from the midi track moves, and I get no sound.  When I go to output settings of the midi track, the only option is SD3 which is selected.

If I then close the project without saving (trying to get rid of SD3) and open a new project, SD3 isn't even an option to insert.  I have to completely close Sonar and reopen.  I'm completely in love with the track templates because they do all the tedious routing, but being able to drag grooves from SD3 into a midi track would be helpful .  I didn't have this issue on 8.5.  Any suggestions at all?

Starting to get to the bottom of this.

SD3 does not show up as a VST instrument in plugin manager.  When I go to plugin manager and point it to the folder on my hard drive that contains SD (including the .dll) and re-scan, it still does not include SD in the VST instruments.  This would explain why I'm able to insert through the track templates, but not through insert soft synth.  Where should the .dll reside in order for Sonar to recognize it during a scan?  Also, I pointed it to the program files version (64 bit) and not the program files x86 (32 bit version).  I'm definitely on windows 7 64 bit.  Please help.
