Was lying in bed this morning... Had my little laptop based studio with me and I was working on my next ambient soundscape thing.

I fancied playing something in real time (shock horror!) but I couldn't be bothered getting out of bed.

I then remembered that Sonar has a virtual keyboard now. Never used it. Never thought I ever would...

Until today.

Came in pretty handy if you ask me

Just sayin

It is a really nice feature to have.  Not a replacement for real keys, but I still use it a lot.

Very handy little tool and for situations just like yours. I use it a lot.

The Virtual Keyboard and WASAPI drivers have changed my life when it comes to being on the road with a laptop. I wrote my first song when I was stranded a couple weeks ago using only my laptop and nothing else. Couldn't have done that a year ago.

Nice to hear that other peeps are using it too

Could develop into a bad habit (not getting out of bed...)

I also love the WASAPI drivers for the same reasons as above, simple laptop convenience . . . though I think using a laptop in bed (like smoking) can be dangerous ;)

My laptop situation needs to switch between WASAPI and ASIO drivers quite frequently, and it doesn't always go smoothly, seems to take a few reboots sometimes, but I always get it working eventually. Wish there was a button, but saying that makes me just feel lazy.

Must admit that I have never tried the new WASAPI drivers. Sounds like a mini pain. Might give it a go though, just out of curiosity. But, to be honest, my Q-C pretty much follows my laptop around, such is its size...

I love me some WASAPI drivers.  I can set up projects (naming/organizing tracks, gain staging, etc.) on the laptop on the couch while watching TV with the wife.  Then copy the entire project to my studio computer for the real audio work.
