Personally, the new paradigm is much better for the way I (and apparently many others) work with MIDI. But I understand that not everyone works the same way.

Craig,
At your leisure can you please perform a test for me?
Does clicking on a visible midi note in PRV still set that track as the active track
and also highlight that track on the right side track list?

Thank you!

I noticed you had another request here:

Why not load it up and once you get your answer either use it or roll back ?

Too many projects on the bench right now containing multiple locked PRV windows,
and sorry to say, too many deal breaking slow downs discovered already with the new PRV.

With any change, some people will be happy, others won't be. Reactions range from yours to this single change has convinced someone to stick with SONAR. I really don't know how many users need not to be able to see one part out of many, compared to making it easier and more foolproof to select what they do want to edit. As I said in a different thread, I suspect this will follow the same arc as the comping improvements in that this is about "phase 1." If enough people vote up a proposal to restore some of the "view filter" capabilities, and it can be done without disrupting attributes the majority of people want, then that increases the odds of those kinds of changes happening.

I also develop software for over 34 years and one of the things I learned is: if something will change, change for the better, but PRESERVE what has already been done.
This can be done through new parameters, letting users choose whether or not they want certain functionality.
Sonar is a highly complex and flexible software. In this way, one must be very careful about changing something, because you may think that it is only helping, forgetting that it may be in the way of hindering much as well.

Rogeriodec: So you are 1 person to complain so far about this change. Maybe you should speak as one person not for all of us. You have no idea how many people have voiced an opinion opposite to yours and perhaps that is the reason this change has taken place.

I agree 100% and will add and ask Please never make tasks slower to accomplish and please never remove functionality.

I've seen no one mention that loosing functionality enhances their work flow.
What I am seeing is people liking the parts that make it easier for them to do what they do,
and not being aware of the things that have been lost, probably because they never used them.

I will not start a discussion with you, but do not be dishonest by saying that I speak only for myself.
I've been using Cakewalk for over 20 years and I applaud all the improvements it has been bringing us since then.
And I think it's my duty to point out the problems as well.
Because at the end of the day, everyone wins, not just a few.

I agree. But as I mentioned in another thread, there are many ways to edit MIDI data other than the PRV. For me, between the PRV, Track view, ghost controller and overlay options, spline-based editing, the event list, Step Sequencer, and fret view, I have everything I need. I don't need to do it all in the PRV. In fact I'd rather not try to squeeze everything into it, but optimize it for what it does best, and optimize the others for what they do best.

Yes there are other ways to edit midi, but even with my typical 75 to 80 midi tracks
it's never been a "squeeze into" situation with PRV for me.
It all fits very easily into 5 or more indidual PRV windows that are specific and locked.
The other methods are fairly useless, to me that is, as none match the speed, precision and ease I find
in the PRV of Splat up to 2017.01.

Locked screen sets conquer the problem of windows not remebering their settings. (most of the time)
CTRL+SHFT+Arrow Left or Right quickly rock through the pinned windows.

Adding or removing tracks within an open PRV is painless and fast.
Ticking a color off + V to invert is priceless as is A to return to show all and both are very quick.
Rebuilding a PRV with very specific tracks selected in TV is fast as lighting
as is arming, recording soloing muting, zooming and navigating.

I stuck with Sonar 4.0.2 until late in the life of X3 because of updates that didn't work for me and I think I might be
looking at a similar long vacation with 2017.01. It might even be my final "lifetime" update at age 66.
Not a big deal really. I've gotten a lot of great work done, even with Sonar 4 and X3 and both are still installed.
I've gotten quite a few valuable new features with Splat and I feel I've gotten a good value for the money.
I'm happy with what I have.

Yes, it could be better and I'm glad they're trying to make it better, but I'll be sitting it out and just watching progress for a while, looking for something that will make my very specific method of working a little easier.
If it comes along then fine, and if not then that fine also.
