  • Adding pitch bend to existing track

I am working thru my first recording with Sonar Artist. With Music Creator 4 I would often add pitch bend and/or mod wheel data to a midi track after recording because sometimes the track is easier to play well without the extra distraction. I can't seem to record the pitch bend on the same track without overwriting points on the track where I enter the pitch bend. Is there a filter or something else I'm missing? I'm an old midi veteran but I need help on this one. I know there has to be an easy fix but I'm running off the learning curve road on this one so thanks for the help. Ron,

If I understand your question correctly, you're trying to add pitch bend data to a track that already has pitch bend data? You can always edit the existing data by hand. Or you could clone the track and record the pitch bend data again and cut and paste the parts you like. Just some ideas to try and help.

You need to change the record mode to sound on sound. In this mode, any new MIDI data you record is added to the previous data instead of overwriting it. Right click on the record button and select sound on sound from the menu.

You could also record the pitch bend data to a new track, thus assuring your original track remains untouched while allowing complete freedom to edit the new data, including deleting it and starting over if you like.

This method works. Just keep in mind that mapping two separate tracks to the same MIDI channel/destination can sometimes cause other headaches. Or at least head scratching while you try to figure out why, for example, you keep turning the volume down on the main track but it still seems too loud when the track plays (because its also listening to volume commands from the pitch bend track which is set to 100).

I go with Bit's method, Have always done this and it always works. You can then merge the tracks.

dlesaux,Johan, bitflipper, and Cactus, Thank you much for the info. Problem solved. I put the controller data on a new track and it works great. Now, as punishment for the help you'll be sentenced to checkout my first tune in sonar in a few days. Thanks again, Ron.
