I actually was unaware - until this thread - that ANYTHING was removed from X2 to X3.

Why ?

Because I've been using Duckbar since X1. Again with zero errors.

Well it wont support Sonar 2015 until much later in the year.

Don't be so sure of that :)

Panu is a freaking magician.

Panu stated he wont have time to even work on this until the summer.

It's amazing that they actually REMOVED this!  It was in X2

Right, so set colors in X2, export the file and import to X3 or Platinum.

That's what I did.

but then you have to import ALL colors, no?

Yes. If you have customizations in X3/Platinum that were not in X2, you can export/import the other direction before setting background colors.

This is what I do to. I've been using the same color scheme since X1. You just export your colors from an older version, and import when you upgrade.

It's not a great solution, and sucks for people who just started with X3 or the new one - but that's all there is. It's the closest to what you're looking for alewgro.

But I'd stay tuned.

.......You've got frozen tracks; muted clips; clips not in solo'd tracks; regionFX clips; selected areas of clips... there's just so many subtle color hints that ideally need to work together to convey meaning to the user - especially new users. (emphasis added)
It's so easy to screw that up by color customization. Also, you've got the "track follows bus color" feature that is pretty nice.

Thanks Stickman.

I think this is what's really going on with colors and I do appreciate it.  Trouble is, the default dark grays / blacks are just too hard to see for an old man like me.  Maybe an option with a little more contrast would help.

Again, I really wanted to use the "track follows bus color" option but it doesn't work with Duckbar.  I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

Are you talking about exporting a .clr file?  I tried this when I moved to X3 and it didn't work.  I had been bringing that file forward from S8.5 and it didn't work in X3.

There were several protracted threads about the color customization of X3 last year, and Duckbar was the only answer I could find.

Yeah - that's what I use. It's always worked for me - I even did it from X3 to Platinum ;-)

I realize it's a workaround, but it was a wondrous experience when I discovered the "auto-adjust" button on my monitor, then tweaked brightness and contrast.

Thanks Craig.

After the big discussion we had last year on this topic, I did discover that the "Viewing angle", (or what ever it's called), was off on my monitors!  What a big difference that made.  Trouble is, I use this computer for every thing, including my day job so I would not be able to set ideal colors for just one program.  Right now it's a compromise.  I really think that if there were just a little more contrast between the grays, it might do the trick.

We make compromises, we adjust and we move on...

I agree.
I'd also like to see more a more customizable UI. I'd like to be able to even replace faders, knobs and other bitmaps. I know this is much to wish for and that it probably never will come true though..

However.. More specialized customization-controls could always be "hidden" in the advanced preferences, to make it less likely that someone messes up the UI by accident. ..A big "set to default"-button in this window could be a nice thing to have too, just as a safety net. (Being able to load and save these would also be nice, of course)
