did you NOT read this thread at all?   The Inspector clip color option sucks.

Select all, and change bg color for all tracks in 2 second. I know it's a workaround, but i takes me 2 seconds....

The OP said that bg colors couldn't be changed, and that's just not correct

Yep, you're right.  However some of us really like our BG colors set to track numbers, like S8.5 so we would have to change them individually and of course, re-do when we bounce.

Even Sonar X2 has this capability. It was removed in X3 (probably due to the track colors), but dont know why.

This black on dark grey for me anyway is hard to read.  I also like different colored clips.

The second post (mine) in this thread explains why the new color implementation (track header color = clip foreground color = PRV note color) in X3 is very logical and helpful for me:

BTW, you can change the Clips pane background colors if you find the black clips hard to identify.

SONAR X3e:

1) Select the Track, and then click on Clip in the Inspector:

2) Change the Background and Foreground colours to taste:

3) Voila:

It is a little disconcerting, though, that whenever I "bounce to clips" I have to reset the colors because doing so reverts the clip to default colors. That should be fixed.

I don't think that's a bug, soens. Imagine when you combine two clips that have different foreground/background colors and different names. Should Sonar bring up a dialog box asking you which colors and name the new, bounced clip should inherit? If so, I think it's a feature request. I don't know how many of the other DAWs handle this, but Studio One shows the same behavior as Sonar.

Can you make the Waveform Black so that it is a black waveform on top of the clip color of your choice?

Sure. Since the track header color is linked to the clip foreground (waveform) color, all you need to do is change the track header color to black. But if you don't want the track header to be black (well, it's not really black, it looks dark grey), you need to select all clips in the track and choose black from the Background dropdown in the Clips Properties Inspector. Unfortunately, the waveforms of clips you record in the track after changing this option will still inherit the track header's color, so you'll need to select these clips and change their clip foreground color to black.

I guess no one reads that I already know this but its a terrible solution as the minute you bounce clips, they lose their background color.  I also dont want to do this for every track.
