  • Will The New Sonar Change The Clip BACKGROUND Colors? (p.9)

Out of curiosity, is it purely colours that is the problem? Or is it magnification?

What I mean is would it be more beneficial to have colours with everything at the same size? Or would it be better to have an option that has a scalable magnification zone around the mouse pointer? And what I mean by scalable is that the user can define how large the area of the magnification is that surrounds the mouse cursor. As in you could have a rectangle magnification zone that could potentially take up to a third or even half of your screen real estate, if you so defined the option?

Also I would imagine that this feature would be able to keep the mouse pointer in the centre of the magnified zone until you hit the edge of the screen and then whether it is top, bottom, left or right, the mouse pointer would move until it reached the directional confines of the screen, whilst still maintaining the magnified zone above, below and to the left or right of the pointer.

Thoughts?

For me - it's colors only.

I have tested it.
At the moment you can import an old "Color set file" from X1 or X2.
I got my white clips back. By bouncing audio the clips are white.
But you cannot edit the colors within the new sonar.
They stay as imported from X1 or X2.
Maybe this helps a little bit.

Adam, first off, my apologies for regurgitating the duff info regarding changing clip background colours using the Clip Inspector.

The last few posts in this thread have made me realise that my background colours are indeed a legacy of the Colours profile I created in X2. I honestly didn't even know that facility had been removed in X3 and now in Plaitinum, hence my confusion.

My eyesight too is not wonderful - generally speaking I start to struggle in low light conditions, but specifically I have a big problem with discerning low contrast views and images. As you will no doubt understand, the original X1 colour scheme consisting of little more than a homogenous sea of various shades of grey was a nightmare for me.

Currently, I find the almost unnoticeable colour/contrast changes that indicate which track is selected in the Track View Pane to be a big problem. Back in 8.5, I had the colours set up so that when I selected a track, the result was a virtual 'negative' of everything else on the screen, not just for the Track Pane itself, but for any Clip/s selected in that track. In this example, the grey background of Track 12 turns yellow (and the Track number goes bright blue), and the clip background turns black with a yellow waveform:

With X2 onwards, I've refined my templates with the (extremely useful) ability to colour code tracks and busses, all geared up to help me discern various parts of the GUI more easily (Drums = Blue; Demo/Scratch Track = Brown; Bass = Black; Rhythm Guitars = Red; Lead/Harmony Guitars = Green; Master Bus = Yellow):

As far as making it more obvious to discern selected tracks and clips, I've tried to accomplish something akin to the way I had it in 8.5, albeit with the added advantage of colour coding.

By default (and what I must have set up pre X3), all the audio track clip backgrounds are yellow, and the waveforms follow the track colour. When a clip is selected, the header turns blue and the background goes light blue. The only way I've found to accentuate the colours/contrast in the Track Pane is to have the track's number go bright yellow. I'm afraid that the current set up whereby the name of the track changes from to just isn't good enough for me.

Here's how a selected clip/track appears in a project:

Having the ability to have the track pane change colour to mimic the selected track/clip colour would be nice:

I actually was unaware - until this thread - that ANYTHING was removed from X2 to X3.

Why ?

Because I've been using Duckbar since X1. Again with zero errors.

Thanks for these screenshots.  Some useful ideas here.   Sorry if I was getting frustrated... I was getting tons of messages about the inspector view when I had already posted numerous times that it is not good enough.

And yes, I'm glad im not the only one who agrees this gray on gray really stinks lol.

Well it wont support Sonar 2015 until much later in the year.

It's amazing that they actually REMOVED this!  It was in X2

Right, so set colors in X2, export the file and import to X3 or Platinum.

That's what I did.

but then you have to import ALL colors, no?

Yes. If you have customizations in X3/Platinum that were not in X2, you can export/import the other direction before setting background colors.

Don't be so sure of that :)
