Just tried the new UWP MIDI driver with a few devices hooked to the backup system. Quite disappointingly none of them work properly:
 
MOTU Ultralite MIDI ports not showing at all
loopMIDI virtual ports only showing as MIDI IN but not as MIDI out
Eventide devices shown as MIDI IN and OUT but when selected they become deselected upon clicking Apply
 
Looks like we got a long way to go here (was hoping that this would be an improvement as regards accessing e.g. Eventide devices from their custom GUI while having ports open in Sonar as well)

I believe you are encountering problems with the current Win10 UWP implementation. As Windows support for multi-port MIDI devices improves, so will SONAR's.

that was also my impression. don't think that there is anything Sonar could do other than implement the new MIDI API as it currently stands.
 
so if it is "just" win10 that needs to be improved, UWP may be useful eventually. if it also requires the hardware to change, I don't have much hope that vendors will update older products and then you are stuck with MME ...

It's a shame that the two driver  modes cannot co-exist. that would solve most of the problems, I bet.....
 

That's what they said back in Sonar 5 days when Cakewalk introduced x64 bit along with the 64 bit double precision engine. We take 64 bit OS and drivers for granted now.

These thing all exposed that the industry is not one to move ahead quickly. And why would they when it takes, software developers, Microsoft and hardware manufacturers all to work together to make things happen. And here we have one of the small players, Cakewalk again taking the lead with new technology. It was just a few weeks ago Cakewalk talked about MIDI over Bluetooth.

Even folks here grumbled about it; they should fix current problems and not worry about new stuff that there's no use for yet.

That's often an accusation hurled at those in the lead not those who follow.
