The link you sent me,tto the documentation with the table of contents, is that the same 2500 page 'reference' guide MUDGLE was referring to?

yes.
You also have documentation that comes with sonar Platinum (if you downloaded the documentation).

I did download everything, I'm sure. But stupid me, I have no idea where to find it. I looked above the start menu in my programs within cakewalk (win 7 ), but nothing there.
Let me guess, inside help within a project. But that usually sends me to the website meaning I may not have downloaded it?
One thing, is it in pdf so I can move it to another computer so I don't have to sit at the project the whole time?

If you did the default install then Its located in: C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\SONAR Platinum\SONAR.CHM
Simply double click on the SONAR.CHM file.

One bit of advice is learn the names of things. Learn what a clip is. Learn what an aux track is and so on. Once you learn the terms used to describe features and functions you will be well on your way in understanding Sonar.  The manual is ideal for this.

This is my challenge.  I am really new to this, I have never done any recording at all.  I play the piano - that's it.  I'm an IT guy, so the software doesn't intimidate me, but the mountain seems insurmountable.  I've been going through the Groove 3 video serious on Sonar - it is good for explaining how to do things, but is not much help if you don't know even what you are looking at.

Aux Track? Take Lanes?  Master Bus?  I haven't the foggiest clue what any of these are.  Heck, I don't even know what "comping" means.  Its been a very slow process of learning, but I've been amazed at how much I've learned so far.   6 months ago I didn't know what a DAW or Midi was.  Now I can record simple audio and VSTi tracks, and even route things back to my modules.

I am having a blast though with all of this.  I read the forum religiously, even though it seems to be in a different language to me.

So far, to me, it looks like you're doing everything right.

You're not the first, nor will you be the last, to get sucked in by a "deal too good to pass up" offer.

Bitflipper, I understand your point completely. But that notion is a two edged sword.
If I had followed that edict, I wouldn't be here. I would not have jumped on the Cakewalk bandwagon to begin with.
I'd had it with my Roland VS 2480. While it was a nice machine, I didn't get very far with it. Just too outdated. I felt there were many reasons to leave the Roland VS, but hardly any to stay.
Grabbing the Waves bundles was in a way, an attempt to force myself away from that and into the computer daw.
Upon purchasing splat at a great price WITH lifetime updates AND two fantastic Waves bundles...once I had everything downloaded onto a fresh install of win7/64 4 core 8 hyperthread, 7,200 rpm hd, 8gb ram, USB 3.0/fw...a beautiful laptop in its own right...I really did feel I had given myself very good reason for what I had just done. (Sorry, the grammar)..
All that, sitting in front of me, then looking over at my old VS2480...what can I say? Hands down, I believe I made a good choice. I had committed myself deep enough not to turn back. I'm not planning on using those plug-ins for a while. But it helps to know they're there. They've got my back.
I spent years dredging through the VS learning curve and getting nowhere.
I've only touched the surface of splat and already...I find everything so interesting, exhilarating!
So, sucked in, yes. But in my case, truly better for it, thank you
My main concern is...why did I wait so long!?
