  • Win10 Update issues for anyone? (p.3)

I've always preferred to buy used cars over new. One of the reasons I do so is that a used car has already had a good shakedown. Things most likely to fail are minor, normal and - most important - predictable. With a new car, the engine could fall out.

With Windows automatic updates, we're getting a new car every Tuesday.

Windows just installed some updates and now SONAR is crashing on me. My default project loads but another crashes with an error in the "CompPkgSup.DLL" module. I think I'm gonna try and roll-back the Win update and see what's what but figured I'd ask on here to see if anyone else has had this problem?

My puter updated Tues and again today. I just got a crash with the error in the "CompPkgSup.DLL" module, while trying to import an MP4 file.

OK. now I got that too. Sonar crashing when importing an MP3.

Yup, that's the one, SF. Sit tight for a few days, I'll bet that problem magically disappears next Tuesday. It seems to be getting some attention over at MS, as it apparently can cause Explorer to crash, too. That's the kind of bad news that mobilizes emergency patch teams. Follow that first link and go to the second page, where someone has posted a possible workaround.

Thanks, bitflipper, for pointing that out. Checking for win10 updates showed that now there was KB4015438 pending. After installing it, the crash is gone. So everybody who installed KB4013429 last week should run win10 update!

This update includes quality improvements. No new operating system features are being introduced in this update. Key changes include:

  • Addressed a known issue with KB4013429 that caused Windows DVD Player (and 3rd party apps that use Microsoft MPEG-2 handling libraries) to crash.
  • Addressed a known issue with KB4013429, that some customers using Windows Server 2016 and Windows 10 1607 Client with Switch Embedded Teaming (SET) enabled might experience a deadlock or when changing the physical adapter’s link speed property. This issue is most commonly seen as a DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION or when verifier is enabled a VRF_STACKPTR_ERROR is seen in the Memory dump.

I haven't noticed any problems either with the current Win 10 Pro and updates with Sonar or other apps.  Same way with my dual boot "Insider Preview" version (currently at the latest 15063 build) with Sonar or other apps.

I updated to KB4015438, which is the latest update available, and still have the same error.

I CAN open and play projects with no video. But the error still happens on the project I have video loaded. Unfortunately for me I happen to be writing a score and desperately need to sync video.

    Any suggestions?

System restore to the day or days before you did the first update.

Whew! Thanks for this thread. Yes, a client project wouldn't open, even though I had been versioning--suddenly none of the versions would open! Freaked me out until I saw this thread. Some of my other projects would open but this one in particular had an embedded MP4 file I was scoring to. That must have been the culprit.

The windows update fix mentioned above took care of the problem.

The new update fixed my browser dragging crashes.

    Good thread!

That Windows Security Update auto-installed and fragged my system again. Strangely, Windows doesn't let me restart without installing updates. That's so lame. Anyhow, that update still drops SONAR into error mode like crazy.
