I kind of realized recently that in all my years on this forum I've never posted a song here. So even though the forum may not be long for this world, I'm going to start with a bit of seasonal fun...

It's actually a collection of tracks, done (almost) entirely in Sonar, combining electronic music (and influenced, as the title suggests, by the seminal electronic album Switched On Bach) with Christmas carols. It's an ongoing project, I tend to do a few tracks every year, and as it's progressed my young son has become more involved in helping me choose songs and sounds, play in the basic melodies and construct the arrangements.

Enjoy!
Cool sounds you've dialed up on the synths. I used to have a room full of them, and started out with my very first one as a patch bay modular that I built from a kit. Nice that you and your son get to do some music together!

Hey... yeah well I definitely don't have a room full of hardware synths, just a virtual room full of virtual ones! And in fact many (most, if I'm honest) of the sounds I/we used are presets, more or less tweaked to purpose. I do some more structural programming from time to time, but I'm really more of a player than a programmer so am quite happy to use presets (and enjoy tweaking them), selecting and arranging them to make a musical result. I'm a musician and composer, and am definitely not one of those who insist that using presets is somehow cheating or not 'real' synthesis somehow.

I guess the Santa image in a room full of synths threw me. I used to have a room sort of like his, but like you it's all virtual now.

Very nice - well done in the spirit of the season.  The lead synth works well to my ears.

Thanks! Not sure which track you are referring to so I don't know which lead you mean, but assuming it may be the first/default track, the first 'lead' synth is sample-based, from Sonicouture's stunning Novachord library, a recreation of the legendary Hammond all-tube monster from 1939. I use it often because it has a strange, unique, otherworldly vibe to it that I don't hear a lot but appeals to me somehow...
