It doesn't overwrite anything. As I understand it, this eliminates the issue that happened if you, for example, do comping on the first verse and generate, say, 10 Take lanes. Then if you started comping on the second verse and also used 10 Take lanes, SONAR would not use the existing Take Lanes even though they would be empty where the second verse started...it would create new Take Lanes so now your track would have 20 take lanes or whatever. With this change, because the 10 Take lanes were empty where the second verse started, SONAR would simply record into those.

Whew...thank you sir...I was about to panic.

Do they call you that? And were just learning this now?
Largely true.

I try not to panic, I've found it's counter-productive. I think I panic less than the Cakewalk people themselves

As long as I can press record and have stuff saved, and play it back through EQ and dynamics with variable levels, I'm 95% of where I want to be. The rest is coffee and dessert.

Agreed and I don't normally panic either.  Comp, via loop and take lanes, is such a big part of the way I work.  When I "misread" the notes on the upcoming release, however, it did send up red flags that I needed to address.  But, as it turns out, the new changes are VERY positive and welcome.  THANKS BAKERS!

These Take Lane and Comping enhancements are welcome news. I can't wait to get started with these. Bravo!

I had a client here yesterday, a singer from the band Liquid Blue. I tracked vocals with her on several songs, doing multiple takes on different parts. This new feature kicked in perfectly and kept the project nice, neat, and organized. SONAR would automatically use the earliest Take Lane available (where no overlapping would occur.) Some takes were different lengths, some were in different areas. No glitches, no issues. Just problem free, efficient and smart tracking.

This is one of those things that I didn't even think about needing, but now that it was announced I thought how excellent it would be. Then I put into practice and wondered how I ever got along without it.

This is a huge improvement and I am super happy with it. Thank you Bakers!

Glad to hear it's working fine

This is something I was waiting for a long time because I never could understand why e.g. tracking back vox for 4 choruses with 5 passes each would leave with 20 take lanes instead of 5 ...
