If I r emember, when Cakewalk announced they were working on Ripple Editing they talked about new/improved comping and take management as well. I guess this is the first instalment of the latter. To me it seems that they are all connected in the deep down Sonar workings.

Hello,

Is there a way to desactivate the comping re-use feature ?
I have trouble when working with it. I will try to explain why with the following workflow :
- record the first take -> the recorded clip will show "record 1"
- record a second take -> the recorded clip will show "record 2"
- and so on ...
- save the project and quit sonar
- launch sonar and open the previous project
- record a further take -> the recorded clip will also show "record 1" albeit is has nothing to do with the previous "record 1"

I 'm getting very confused with what. Or do I miss something?

Thank for your help.

Jacques

So what do you want, or think, that it should do? did you want it to name the next clip record 3?  I suppose that this is a possible scenario but, as you have found out, is not what Sonar does.

The clip name doesn't really have anything to do with comping.  It is just a name that Sonar gives to your clip. If you do loop recording it will give it names like "Record 1 take 4".

However, there should be a new take lane created if the recording overlaps with other take lanes. If it doesn't then it will try to reuse an existing take lane.  If having clips with the same name bothers you then you can rename them to whatever makes sense to you.

Take Lane re-use is about not creating new lanes when there is space in existing lanes when recording a time range that doesn't overlap earlier takes. Take naming is unrelated to this.

In the past, SONAR would remember the last take number used in an earlier session and start numbering new recordings from that point in a new session. This should happen regardless of whether take lanes are being re-used or not, but I haven't confirmed that's still working as expected.

Hello all,

Is there a way to copy take lane edits to another track?

Example: I've recorded some bass takes with different amps at the same time, every amp has its own track.
I've selected the best parts from different take lanes on 'track 1', I want the same parts from the lanes on other tracks.
Is there an easy way to do that?

Thanks in advance!

... so what you're all saying is, I can't take your lane and raise you 3... anymore?
