I need to import MIDI files from Band-in-a-box and sometimes Finale "human playback". These programs have the characteristic of using 3-7 controllers per track (velocity, volume, portamento, etc). Before 2017.3, the SONAR UI made this practically impossible to use, so I didn't. Now that we have the new PRV, it seems like this should be very manageable.
I am running some simple tests to learn about the new capability, but things don't seem to be acting as I expected.
1) I brought in the MIDI for a bass line. It all plays fine, and I can edit the velocity controller no problem. I added a controller to the MIDI track for "10: Pan (Channel 1)" I expected this would allow me to edit midi information that would govern the pan knob on the bass MIDI track. I used right-drag to select a bunch of bass notes, then in the controller 10 pane, I drew a sweep from 0 to 127 and back to zero. When I played the track, the Pan knob did not move. Am I missing something basic here.
2) I added a portamento controller as above but got no portamento effect. Perhaps the synth (SI Bass Guitar) doesn't support portamento, so maybe that makes sense.
3) I added a sustain pedal controller. That worked exactly as expected. I could paint 127 and 0 to cause the sustain to take effect and release. Perfect.
3a) Now this gets peculiar. I deleted that sustain controller, yet the sustain information remained. I would have expected that information to go away when I deleted the controller. I added the sustain pedal again, thinking the info might re-appear. But it actually re-appeared on the Pan controller. I had to select a different MIDI track (guitar) and then select bass to get the information to show up under the correct controller. That seems like a bug.
Any thoughts on this, especially the part about pan controller not having any effect?
