I have downloaded an SFZ file and samples for it in .wav format.
 
I try to drag and drop it into Dim Pro and I just get samples can't be found or loaded.
 
I have placed the SFZ folder into various places, trying to get it to work.
 
The SFZ folder has a sub-folder that contains the samples.
 
Is there some special layout or placement that I need to get this thing working? I ask because I can't tell whether it's the placement or maybe the files themselves at fault.

Usually sfz files and their samples are located in the Multisamples folder. The default location is "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Multisamples." The actual path to the Multisample sample folder is in the registry entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\dp\Multisamples Folder
 
However, sample paths in an sfz file may be relative or absolute. The content shipped with DPro all use relative paths in the sfz files.

Open the sfz file in a text editor like notepad and look to see where it expects the wav file to be. Look for
sample=foldername\wavename.wav or sample=C:\foldername\wavename.wav The first example is a path relative to the location of the sfz file. The second an absolute path.

AH. OK. So the SFZ itself decides the path. (Knew all this once )
 
OK I checked the SFZ and each sample is in the form "sample=samples/C1vH.wav". So it's a relative path and as long as the /samples folder is a sub-folder of the place where the SFZ file is, they should be found? Or is this upsetting Dim Pro? Do I have to place the SFZ and its subfolder somewhere?


It says "not found or couldn't be loaded. The wav files are playable in other programmes.

DPro looks for sfz files in the Multisamples folder. Create a new folder there, then add the sfz files and sample folder to it.

G'AH! I loaded the SFZ OK into sforzando and it "worked". But now everything SONAR plays, in any synth, is all distorted. Audacity plays waves fine. It's done this to me a few times, but usually resolved if I just quite and re-ran SONAR, but now even a reboot does not work. I seriously did not need this right now.

OK. I ran the Wave Profiler and that seems t have done it.
 
SO. sforzando can load and play the sfz and the files associated. But Rupture and Dimentia Pro still fail. I have moved the piano fold across to c:\programme files and into C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Multisamples(for some reason all my stuff has been installed in C:\Program Files x86\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Multisamples, but that seems to work OK), with the wav files still in its subdirectory.
 
AHah! this is interesting. Here is the _full_ error message in the log file
 
File c:\program files\cakewalk\dimension pro\multisamples\kawaiuprightpiano-20170128\samples not found or couldn't be loaded.
 
So it's looking for a file named samples, not a wav file in that folder?

Do you mean the distortion (cross-posting here) or the failure to load? Whatever, I am using a new blank project each time...keep it simple and protect my working projects! I have 8GB, so that should be OK

The default path to the Multisample folder could be in either the 32bit or 64bit program files. That depends on whether 32bit or 6bit DPro was installed first. It does not matter where it is as long as the path is correct in the registry.
 
DPro would not attempt to load a path name as a sample file. It may be having trouble resolving the path, there may be a permissions problem with the path or the sfz file may have some subtle incompatibility with the DPro sfz implementation.
