I have 8GB, so that should be OK

That should be OK for projects not to exceed a certain size. There is little to go on but the few symptoms described in your posts. The wave profiler works for driver modes other than ASIO. It does nothing when running in ASIO mode.

My projects are hardly straining the system ATM

I am not using ASIO. My card does not support it. There is supposedly a driver that allows it, but I can't get it to install.

I think I have to accept that the compatibility problem is the cause, given that other synths are loading the SFZ OK.

I am not happy with the Dim Pro Grand Pianos. They are set up to simulate my _playing_ the piano, not listening to it! Notes are geared to shift left to right with key value and there is a lot of reverb in some of them. The two just do not gel. I am pretty sure it's not just a preset thing as I am loading SFZs and not programmes. If I do, there are no Dim Pro settings to cause that.

Given this incompatibility issue, I would hate to take an SFZ from the Dim Pro library and spend time making it suit me, only to find Dim Pro could not read it when saved ("as", of course!).

I would suspect Dim Pro of being "Dim Proprietary" except that other synths can read its SFZs.....

Open Cakewalk's own SFX.EXE and drop the sfz file on that.

I don't remember DimPro ignoring the path if is stated.

I am pretty sure it's a compatibility issue, but what is SFX.exe (or Pro)?
