  • Where are the 'envelopes' both volume and pan, clip or track on Pro

I have used Sonar 7 and am now using Sonar Pro and enjoying the features, however, in 7 when I wanted to add a track or clip volume or pan envelope, I just had to right click the track or clip to 'add envelope'. It's no longer there. I've tried Track and Clip windows but no envelope.  I checked Help and it doesn't mention envelope anywhere except how to add nodes. I just want to add an automation envelope such as volume. How do I do this

There's a drop-down in the Track View (left-hand side of the clip, where the controls are) that normally starts as "Clip."  That drop-down has an option for Clip Automation.  You should find it there.

Probably your best way is to right click the fader you want to automate and select Write Enable
Play the project and move your fader to generate an envelope
Stop the project and deselect Write Enable

Your envelope will then be either visible as "ghosted" in your clips pane, or if you choose to Enable Automation lanes will be visible in it's own lane where you can edit the nodes.

To enable clip automation use the Edit Filter Control https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR&language=3&help=Automation.11.html. It works for track automation too.

Wow! I know a lot of engineers who use envelopes all the time, in fact they became popular with the original Acid Music software. It's very precise to use, I find much more so than automating the fader (to each their own) so I find it difficult to understand why Sonar would basically bury this function on the track view under clips when all it took previously was a simple right click on the clip or track. I like Sonar Pro but I find they made the software clumsy in my mind, such as the envelope as well as the need to go between different types of cursors where in the old Sonar 7, that arrow cursor would do just about everything for you from editing a clip to moving the clip.
Thanks for the help though. I'm going to suggest to cakewalk they go back to using the simple right-click on the event method for future versions. So much quicker.

Its not really buried.  In track view next to the take lane button is the automation lane button.  Looks kinda like a sideways Z.  This will allow you to create an envelope of your choice.

Thank you all. The middle click, who would have thought. And, a sideways Z, simple and easy. Thanks again all.
