When i was in the market for an interface, Presonus pretty much scared me off when I discovered that they were implementing monitor mixes and FX within their USB drivers on their VSL models. That's a pretty damn clever hack to short-circuit & sidestep a bit of latency (vs echoing all the way to and back from the daw) and mooch off the PC's processor - clever, but foolish. Foolish in that it's easily broken if MS decides to redo their driver architecture, foolish in that it's essentially stealing time from the daw. Foolish on you if you paid extra for essentially plain interface with a hacked-up driver. YMMV

Their marketing is totally dishonest IMHO... They boost the USB3 and "near zero latency" crap to the hilt yet when you directly ask them about RTL they scatter like roaches or their fan boys come out of the woodwork to defend the nest.
I really wanted to like the Studio 192 but the poor RTL killed it for me.

Okay, sounds like I'm turned off by the Presonus now. I always thought they made good stuff for some reason.

Anyway, I just found out about the Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 Second Generation. Haven't seen any reviews on it but it's quite a package for $500 and I heard the Focusrites have pretty good latency. Can anyone here second the motion?

I've never used Focusrite so I can't comment. A lot of people seem to like them though.

Here is a thread about the second generation Focusrite interfaces:

Nice choice, the 18i20.  (BTW, the 2nd gen touts lower latencies than the 1st). The problem now is that these are just trickling into the stores, so there are very few users who've actually used them. The lower model 2nd gen Scarletts (2i2 and 2i4) have been out for awhile, and aside from some teething problems with the early drivers, the reviews have been good so far.

Also, the first generations were/are solid performers, so I expect the 2nd gens will surpass them in popularity.  I myself will be buying one (probably the 6i6) in the coming weeks.  I have another working interface, so worst case, it's no big deal for me if the drivers need a few months to "mature".

I do have the 192 and was getting frustrated with pops and crackles plus latency. I used to have the delta 1010 which used to work great but I wanted to upgrade. Presonus recently provided new drivers and firmware which at first I wasn't sure was going to do the trick but after a lot of trial and error I got it to work now. I was used to letting Sonar control the mix so in the Presonus controller I would disable Presonus' control. I accidentally enabled it and magically everything worked as it should. As of the past 12 days my buyers remorse has subsided and it does sound great. I'm using addictive drums , rapture pro and Amplitube 4 max which is working as it should now.

I bought a presonus firebox when they were just end of life (2009ísh??) thinking they would support it for a while with decent drivers, they didn't. I swore I wouldn't buy any more hardware from them, studio one is okay though.

I month ago I bought a MOTU UltraLite AVB, couldn't be happier, crazy low latency.

Same here with the MOTU Ultralite AVB. Great unit with very low latency, excellent support and really good sound IMHO.  I am very happy with my decision.

I was looking at the Presonus 192 (also the RM16 and 32).  I ended up with the Behringer which I know is a name most people don't associate with high end...The XR18 is 18 in 18 out AND can function as a full PA (not amplified of course) with Tablet mixing.  A lot of people on their forum:
http://forum.music-group.com/forumdisplay.php?113-X-AIR-General-Discussion chose this over the Presonus because of the sound.

That said, and I have it working well, the software to run the various settings is in a stage of flux, but the thing responds to the OSC standard so there are some third party apps that are starting to overtake the Behringer developed apps which have not seen updates for a while now.

Time will tell if this was a good decision.  I do like the MIDAS designed Preamps though and for $699.00 a stage box that is actually a PA and an 18x18 interface?
