Windows (10) was giving me an alert that a USB device failed.  Further investigation turned up the iLok had failed and Device Manager was showing Code 43 error.  Generally Code 43 is a death sentence for a device.  I tried reseating the iLok but no good.  I tried two other USB ports and the same thing.  I checked the Pace (iLok) site and they wanted full price for a replacement key plus another $24 for two day FedEx shipping.  I checked the Sweetwater site and they want $45.95 including shipping.  I was going to order a new one but my Sweetwater rep was unavailable and I left a call back.  About a half hour waiting for a call back I decided to try the key again and it worked.  I powered off the PC, reinstalled it in the original USB slot and powered back on and it worked.  I powered down overnight and when I powered on this morning it was still working.

I lucked out on having to buy a new iLok key (at least right now).

iLok is the only reason I've not gone for the Softube ProChannels. It's a blessing really, as it saves me some money

It's not always a hardware problem. Frankly, in most cases, it's a software problem. This link is for Win7, but, let's be honest, Win10 isn't so very different under the hood.

Moving it from port to port doesn't fix a broken driver. Rebooting might allow the driver to load properly. Removing the driver and doing a clean install should fix it.

I did uninstall in Device Manager, unplug the iLok from the PC, Power off the PC.  Plug in the iLok and then power back on.  Still was no good.  Tried it several times.  Finally, the last time I just plugged it into a front panel USB port with the PC powered on and it worked.  I then, as noted powered off the PC, plugged it back into the original USB port, powered back on and its worked since that.

Code 43 can be hardware.  I have a "dead" Tascam US 16X08 that failed during a firmware update.  It completed the first part of the firmware update.  The update program instructed me to power it off then back on.  I did that and it no longer would connect to Windows.  Windows showed a code 43 error, which is this case is a hardware (firmware) issue with the Tascam.

I have a 3.5 floppy drive (USB) that I need to use.  I connected it to my PC, which is all USB 3.0 ports and it failed with Code 43. I found out the drive will not work with a USB 3.0 port (at least the ones in my PC).  I connected it to a USB 2.0 port on a laptop and it works.

ZDT = $30/year, of course you must own a 2nd iLok (which I do).

Simple solution, for me anyway.
I don't buy iLok protected software anymore.
PERIOD!
I refer to it as "voting with my feet".
I know some don't have that luxury, I feel for you, I really do.
Every once in awhile I get a little GAS, I love when the specs say; "iLok required".
Plop, plop, fizz, fizz; oh what relief......
Well, you get my meaning.

PS; If I had to have it, as in this software is my "profit center",
well then bapu has the "best answer".
just keepin' it real...

Remember to set the PACE Services to "Automatic (Delayed Start)" every time you install/update the iLok software. It keeps resetting to "Automatic".

I don't use anything that requires the dongle (like Slate's stuff (bought and paid for, but will never use again)), but I've had no trouble with titles that support PC authorization, like UVI, SONiVOX, Softube, Soundtoys and Eventide.

Zero Down Time is not a must for my home studio.  If its down for a week getting a new key and getting the authorizations moved to the new key, no big deal.

I agree, NO MORE products that require iLok.

the latest Win 10 evaluation download broke my Pace service, BSOD from a TPKD fault, installing latest ilock did no good, it also broke some authorizations

a complete restore from the pre release win 10 download did the trick
