Hi Kenny, long time no hear....good to see you brother K!! :))

Very cool stuff on Jimi....I'm listening to it now. Interestingly, I was watching a George Lynch (or Steve Stevens) video the other day and one of them said that Hendrix knew music theory really well.....whereas Alan Holdsworth doesn't know any theory. I would've thought it to be the other way around......

Holdsworth kind of bypassed conventional theory and invented his own system. There's a video on YouTube where he discusses his approach to scales, and it's interesting watching.

Thanks James....will check it out.

I should've said Holdsworth didn't study any music theory (he probably knows it).....

i knew this album was about to come out....
having read about it in guitar player magazine......

i'm always on the fence, with these 'posthumous' releases...

the artist has no say so.

that said, the producer was there.
LOL
and it adds a level of integrity to it....

i loved 'crash landing' when it first came out,
and didn't really 'get' that it was a release that alan douglas took control over, without any input from the artist (he was dead)
and added tracks with session players that had never existed, and all that...

i didn't know all that, but still loved the album, based on the strength of hendrix's performances alone.

that said, after electric ladyland (my all time favorite) i'd have to say that "First Rays of the New Rising Sun"
is a favorite of mine....
despite the fact that RS panned it.
it's an awesome album.

i'll give this one a shot too....

Sharke -  I want to listen to that Holdsworth youtube video. It's him talking about scales?

standouts:

"Things I Used To Do"
"$20 Fine"
"Stepping Stone"
"The Power of Soul"
"Georgia Blues" is pretty dialed in
