I'm using Sonar X2 and trying to get the ProChannel (eq/compressor) to respond to a Mackie emulation surface (BCF2000/X32).
 
I can control the Fx eq , but it doesn't want to control the prochannel eq.  Anyone got it working? 

Mackie plug-in was written before filters was changed by ProChannel. So, Mackie can control the first ProChannel module only (thinking it is EQ).

I thought that Cakewalk wrote the Mackie surface plug-in? If so, they would also update the plug-ins to use the latest features of the software (at least that's what I have to do when I update systems I write).
 
Does any surface support PC?

Cakewalk is not updating Control Surface part since long time. I guess that is not financially feasible. Mackie plug-in is open source now, in case you write something yourself (for Windows, you need paid version of Studio), you can fix it yourself (several lines to add, PC EQ is no longer fixed at the first position, the modification should just "find" it).
 
PC is not supported directly by surfaces. The "latest" approach (used in VS-700) was ACT. So any surface which can do ACT (almost any plug-in except Mackie...) can control PC at the same level.

Sonar just doesn't work well with control surfaces.   Again, it works fine for fader movement, mute, solo, pan and most transport including jogging but thats it.   Anything else is way more work than the reward is worth.  I use the Tascam FW1884 for those above functions only.  Interestingly, for the record, I also have an Frontier Alpha Track and you CAN scroll your way through all or most of the plugin parameters but again, not in a way that is easy or worthwhile.    I also find it interesting that people who use the BCF 2000 don;t see how it is not a truly touch sensitive device so when you are writing automation curves with it, the curve continuously will bounce back to zero position if not actually in motion.  It is not enough to keep your finger on it.   I had one and then learned this the hard way and quickly got rid of it.  Does this work now somehow?

That's what I found as well. I think currently, the best solution is azslow3's control surface plug-in. The interface is not exactly user-friendly, but follow the tutorials on his site and it will make sense.

Sonar has different modes for automations. Default one is not working well without touch sensitive control.

Some devices are already "natively" supported, for example Alpha Track. ProChannel EQ is working and there are several improvements.  I mean with some devices it is possible to avoid learning my ugly interface


I have also written the results from my research of ACT related bugs (surface/plug-in independent). It is possible to make good and reliable ACT maps, even for VST3. That is in fact time consuming but one time (per plug-in) operation.

I wonder if there is some way to completely exclude EQ and Dynamics plugins from the general plugin selection? Would be great if this could be done! maybe I should revisit my C++ skills from ten years ago :S

That is hardcoded within the plug-in. I think the best approach is to make it an option. I am busy with other staff at the moment, not sure when I can do this.
