  • Control Bar: How do I keep it locked from project to project?

I can lock the control bar in one project, but it will not remain the same when I switch projects. Do I have to keep arranging it and locking it for every project? Or is there a way to keep it the same no matter which project I'm working on? Thanks for reading this.
I am using Sonar Platinum ver: 22.12.0 build [2016.12] - x64

I don't think there is a Global setting for this so instead you could create an empty project, set up the CB how you like, save it as a Template then set that as your default New Project template in the Start Screen.

...or something like that.

Cheers.

Hi. Could you not use the new lenses function to do that?
All the best.

I must be missing something here.  I dock my CB at the top, and when I start a new project, it's still there.  I'm not using a template.  Is this not true of everyone?

Its true of me. I have never had to lock the CB.

make sure you don't have a Screenset locked. And under Lens' select "None".

Did I misunderstand the question? I was assuming this was about Control Bar Module configuration. Not the actual docking position of the CB (top/bottom/whatevs).

If so, my apologies but in that case I can only presume my previous suggestion would work for that as well.

I seem to recall a while back that the ability to transfer Screensets from project to project was possible.

Honestly I never use any of this stuff (like screensets) because I find, in general, the defaults work just fine for me. That is likely simply due to the fact I learned the program using the defaults and have become proficient with it as is... not necessarily because the defaults are the best possible configuration imaginable. Also I'm guessing people who are used to using other software and just coming into the SONAR fold have their own, similar, "prejudices" simply because they are used to things being located/operating in a specific place/way.

All that blathering aside... a while back I created a "New Project" template that included some of the little things I do NOT like about the default settings (eg: I have specific CB Module preferences, hate Auto Track Zoom by default but like engaging it manually, etc).

I had honestly fogotten I did that but I do know that I no longer seem to have to screw with stupid fiddle faddle every time I start a new session so apparently... it worked.

The best programs know when to get the frack out of the way (I'm here to make music... not play an extremely annoying and boring video game). Of course "getting out of the fracking way" means different things to different people so it might take a bit of user input... which fortunately Sonar (and other programs) have many options for.

And now I'll go be all philimosophical elsewhere.

Cheers.

AFAIK, the only way to have different control bars (i.e. module configurations) are lenses. Otherwise, control bar settings are global.

No you are correct beep. I think I misunderstood. which is no surprise really. yesterday when I wrote this I had the flu (big stomach bug ripping through Boston right now). I believe lens would be the best way to achieve what the op wants, or like you said, import a new screenset, though im not even sure that would do it. Im still not feeling so good so I better zip it before I suggest to someone that they reinstall windows backwards or something

Yikes. Hope you feel better.

And honestly... I'm waaaay behind the times right now. I only have a vague knowledge of these "Lenses" everyone is referring to and that's only from occasionally skimming some of the new release notes.

Despite being a "Lifetime" member (thanks again doods/doodettes) pretty much all I've been doing the last 7-8 months is writing and recording like a fiend so haven't budged from Manchester because it has not once gotten in my way (well... the few times it has are things that have not been updated anyway so it wouldn't change anything).

What I'm planning on doing at the moment is trying to acquire a new, more powerful laptop (and retire the one I am currently typing on) as a "test/tutorial" system that I'll keep up to date so I can keep MYSELF up to date and be more relevant/useful around here.

At the moment though I have apparently become a dinosaur in SONAR terms. Everything is moving so durned fast. lol

So that's my story... and I'm sticking... to my chair.

:-p
