Basically, there is none. I mean, you can fill out the box and press enter, but you never get anything. Ever.

Is that right?

Thanks,
Chris

Not sure which search box you're using.

In my experience, the knowledge base isn't very helpful.

The search box in the upper-right corner of cakewalk.com (below Welcome back...) is good for finding information in the documentation. Usually, Sonar X3 documentation results display first.

HI:)

If you want to search the forum, use this in the Browser:

forum.cakewalk.com:V-Studio 100

for searching after "V-Studio 100"

or to use ""

forum.cakewalk.com:"V-Studio 100"

Hi - when you use the above technique, you can still end up with extraneous results.  For example, if I use the following terms in a Google search, I get something like 1,350 returned results:

forum.cakewalk.com now time marker scroll

If, instead, I further qualify the search as follows, I get 134 returned results, all of which are indeed limited to those from the Cakewalk forums:

site:forum.cakewalk.com now time marker scroll

The 'site:' filter explicitly limits the search to the web site following it, and then the other search terms are used for the actual search.

Sorry I wasn't more clear in my post.

I am talking about the main Sonar product documentation on the cakewalk.com site, as in this URL:

http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR&language=3

I was not finding any of the topics (title of dialog in Sonar, subject matter string, etc.) in help at all. So I tried single terms "filter", "synth", "track", etc. I get nothing at all, no search hits.

So maybe my help is misconfigured? I don't know.

As a workaround, I found that I can get help when pressing F1 while having the dialog box open, but that's for a very specific item that requires the Sonar team having wired in an F1 help keyword. They actually have to point to something in the code, such as a URL, or a forward-link identifier that re-directs based on server-side information.

In other words, the help has to be preconceived for it to be authored and then have the product team link to it. If they haven't done that, you're left with full-text search. **

And for me, that's not working at all. I'm not even getting older product hits like X3.

Chris

** Of the index, which really needs a lot of help. I don't mean to offend anyone -- maybe it just hasn't been updated in a long while -- but it's failed me repeatedly.

I clicked your link and searched for "synth" and this is what I got.

Yeah, it works for me too. It is possible from there to restrict the results by clicking on one of the links next to ALL results at the top of the page just under the Web tab. Rather than use this method though, I prefer to search the document index using the browsers search engine.

I'm not even seeing the "All Results" under the Web/Image tabs (I do on another machine though, as well as search results, but that's not my music production machine).

There's nothing but a zero line-height frame. See this screen-shot:

Try a different browser

I tried in IE just now and it works. But it would behoove the Cakewalk folk to have their documentation search work in a browser that's not going away any time soon.

I'm using Chrome, like a good deal of other users are. If I have to install Firefox on this machine as well just to be able to search the docs, it would not make me happy.
