Hi all let me first say im enjoying platinum alot since ive had it which is about 10 days or so. Now im on a monthly subscription off $54 aud per month which im happy to pay but my good mate has just got full pro tools for only $24.92 with a one year agreement or $29.99 per month till payed. Now this seems like a huge difference in price and your getting another great DAW (some say the best) so does sonar really stack up to its $54 p/m price? Dont get me wrong i love sonar and have used calkwalk for years but dam that pro tools price is tempting! but with all the money problems Avid is having the future is dim unless something is done to recuse them! Im looking at Apple for that one. Anyway as i said i love using sonar and thats my DAW but when i pay sonar off i might have to see what all the fuss is about....

As far as i am aware, the difference is after 12 months you get to keep sonar whether you cancel your "subscription" or not. You now "own" the software.
Where as protools will no longer function if you stop your subscription at any point.

prepare yourself for the 'there ain't no subscription, never has been brigade', best suit up

and of course you own sonar after your year is up (at least a license to use it for ever) is that the same with pro tools? i thought once you stop paying you can no longer use pro tools?

[edit] and of course you wont get a balanced opinion at the home forum of one of the products you are talking about, maybe to balance things out you should ask the same question at a pro tools forum, and perhaps a neutral forum like kvr. of course the best and only way to find out is find out for yourself, ie if you can demo the other product (pro tools, i have no idea if you can demo it)

So no pay no pro tools lol no thanks! i did not know that and im sure my good mate doesnt know it either, so i let him know. There is no way in hell id fork out the money to pay a endless pit. I have no intention off converting to pro tools as sonar is awesome for what i want, i was just curious why pro tools was so cheap but now i know...cheers

This from the Avid site "If you allow your Subscription to lapse, your Avid software licensed on a subscription basis will no longer run." - as Deon_C said.

It's not often you see the words "neutral" & "kvr" in the same sentence.

They HATE Sonar with a passion over there, almost as bad as GS

don't be such a drama queen!, it's just the real world that's not so cozy as here, there's plenty of sonar fans too, on both forums

No I'd say he had it - it's hate
One or two former SONAR users with bad past experiences jump on and derail every attempt by anyone to objectively talk about current SONAR turning any discussion into a bog of dissent. The few loyal SONAR users there usually just stay out of those discussions.

You are spot on in what you say. But as it is always the same one or two people, to conclude "They HATE Sonar..." is a little bit of a stretch, although I can understand how one could get that impression.

I did have a chuckle at KVR being described as neutral.

Also, I am not certain, but I believe once your first 12 months are up, the price per month may drop.
