So no pay no pro tools lol no thanks! i did not know that and im sure my good mate doesnt know it either, so i let him know. There is no way in hell id fork out the money to pay a endless pit. I have no intention off converting to pro tools as sonar is awesome for what i want, i was just curious why pro tools was so cheap but now i know...cheers

This is also the reason why I never played World of Warcraft. I prefer to pay once and own what I've paid for.

They HATE Sonar with a passion over there, almost as bad as GS

don't be such a drama queen!, it's just the real world that's not so cozy as here, there's plenty of sonar fans too, on both forums

No I'd say he had it - it's hate
One or two former SONAR users with bad past experiences jump on and derail every attempt by anyone to objectively talk about current SONAR turning any discussion into a bog of dissent. The few loyal SONAR users there usually just stay out of those discussions.

You are spot on in what you say. But as it is always the same one or two people, to conclude "They HATE Sonar..." is a little bit of a stretch, although I can understand how one could get that impression.

I did have a chuckle at KVR being described as neutral.

One of the worst ones (on KVR) was given a warning by a mod in the most recent Sonar thread. It was nice to see.
I also piped up as a Sonar user from "2000 to 2007" was offering advice to a potential customer on what Sonar is like!
I'd like to think it's moved on a bit in 10 years (edited due to brain fart).
Grum.

I'd like to think it's moved on a bit in 7 years.

That was nice to see. If anyone is interested:  http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=481003&start=75#p6732032

Grum - I think you need to check your calendar: it's 2017 not 2014. Although it would be good if the world got another chance to try and not make such a pig's ear of 2016.

I purchased SPLAT as my first DAW about 13 months ago. Still learning stuff too. But then once CW offered lifetime updates, I purchased it as well - just a one time payment.

All it takes is a couple of loudmouth trolls to set a negative tone on any forum. KVR's massive popularity assures their numbers will be greater there than at any product-specific forum. So yes, you are going to see posts there that seem to suggest "they hate SONAR", but they always originate from the same bunch of grumpy posters and do not actually reflect a majority opinion.

And at risk of being accused of membership in some "brigade" , no, there is no subscription and never has been.

Well it looks like im going to have to pay kvr a visit for a bit off a rumble i think! ive never been one to back down to a good old fight. Trolls belong back under the bridge where they belong forums should be a place off discussion and ideas not a one sided pissing contest....

As far as i am aware, the difference is after 12 months you get to keep sonar whether you cancel your "subscription" or not. You now "own" the software.
Where as protools will no longer function if you stop your subscription at any point.

This is not correct. I own both, SONAR and Pro Tools. This is form Avids FAQ:
Q) Will Pro Tools stop working at the end of my Upgrade Plan term?
A) No, a perpetual license does not expire so you can continue to use Pro Tools regardless of your plan status. If you don't renew your Upgrade Plan before it expires, you can continue using the versions of software released during your Plan's term.
