• SONAR
  • SONAR Platinum conflict with Datacolor Spyder

Hello,

I'm using a Datacolor Spyder 5 Express calibration system on my video monitors. I have recently found that if the Datacolor utility is running, even if calibration is turned off, that SONAR will not bounce tracks and then crashes. When I completely quit the Datacolor utility all works fine. I don't mind turning off the Datacolor utility but the downside is that there seems to be no way to recall the previous video calibration without running a new calibration scan.

I know this is really not a SONAR issue but possibly someone here who works in audio for video might have some insight or experience with something like this and all info is appreciated.

I don't know the software, but Datacolor says it supports ICC2 profiles. No way to export a profile so you can tell Windows/imaging software to use that as the colour profile?

Hi tlw and thanks for the fast response.

I am running three video monitors and my video card has only one LUT. The Datacolor utility software enables me to calibrate each monitor independently without needing more LUTs.

What I am looking for is a way to restart the Utility (there seems to be no button in the software to do this) and reload my previous calibrations (which, curiously, are saved by the utility!). I have a ticket in with Datacolor and will report back if they have a solution.

Thanks!

Im not sure if this will help but...
From support Datacolor:
""If you have problems saving your new created profile under Windows 10, please re-install the Spyder software. This fixes all issues with user access rights that come up with upgrading to Windows 10 from an older Windows system.""

This as well:
""If you are sure that your user got all the full admin rights to properly access your computer and you are still getting that
error after the display calibration took place, most probably another application/program is locking the profile data file.

Therefore, please close all running applications/programs (especially web browsers and image editing software)
and try to calibrate the display again.""

Are calibrations not saved with profiles ?
Hope this helps.

Thanks Chuck.
What I have done is find the Spyder Utility .exe in the Datacolor folder and run it.
It seems to have worked to restart the software and load my calibrations.
So when I go to bounce tracks in SONAR from now on (until I hear back from Datacolor) I will quit the Spyder software, do my bounce, then restart Datacolor after the session. For me it is a good work around until I have harder info.
Thanks again!

FYI - a side note - I have not tried an export from SONAR to an audio file with Datacolor engaged. That may still work. I will try it and report back. BUT I have tried an export (render) from Sony (now Magix) Vegas with audio and also from Sony (now Magix) Sound Forge and both worked just fine.

Well, the issue has arisen again. I have stopped Datacolor completely but now I cannot bounce tracks in any way in Sonar Platinum. HELP!

Okay...I checked to see if Sonar Platinum was out of date and it was. I had missed an update somehow. After installation the issue seems to be resolved. This has been a frustrating one for me. Hopefully it will not recur. Thanks for all of your patience.

To sum up (for anybody interested):
1. The Bounce to Tracks issue was seemingly resolved with a SONAR update.
2. I have noticed that Datacolor Spyder checks the monitor calibration every hour by default and loads the video card LUT (Look Up Table) every minute by default. These were causing "glitches" in the audio which I resolved by changing the Datacolor Spyder preferences to "none" for each while using SONAR.
3. I left the Datacolor Spyder monitor calibration running with no ill effects.
4. Bouncing to Tracks, Mixing, then Exporting Audio was glitchless.

There ya have it. Cheers.
