When I select Automation from the Clips drop down menu, shouldn't I see the synth listed (in this case FM8) in order to select the automation parameter options? I used to see this. Now all I see are the channel options but no synth.. What am I missing?

Hi. This is just a guess. Have you enabled automation write / read on the synth itself?
All the best.

Did you look on the MIDI track?
Synth automation may be placed on any track. The location may be specified when inserting a synth using the "Display Automation On:" drop down in the "Insert Soft Synth Options" dialog. It may be changed later using the "Synth Automation Menu" label I in the images below.

or in the Multidock or undocked

Hi Zargg! Yes, automation write / read was enabled, but I've been known to forget simple thing like that!  Thanks for your reply!

What happens if you add an automation lane and then try to set the automation parameter?

Hi Kev999! I get the same issue. No synth is listed. I used to see the synth listed bit for some reason I don't anymore. Is there a setting somewhere I need to change? I hope someone can assist. I use the synth automation feature quite a bit. I know the problem isn't specific to any particular synth because I have the same issue on Native Instruments, Arturia and others. Can anyone confirm they see their synth listed as expected?

Hi Scook!

All your help is greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone for your valuable feedback and assistance!

I followed your advice and assigned a control in the synth rack view and it "woke up" the automation assignments. Is this the new way of getting access to the automation controls? I didn't have to do all this before? I could just add an automation lane and assign the control to any assignable synth parameter. Did something change in the workflow that I missed?

Did that really solve it? I wish I had tried that when I had the same problem a few months ago:

I never got to the bottom of it. I was still using X3 at the time. I have since abandoned my old setup, reinstalled everything on a new SSD and upgraded to Platinum, thus by-passing the problem.

It can't be due to new behaviour in Sonar though, as it occurred X3.

Hi Kev999

My problem started when I unchecked the Ask This Every Time box in the Insert Soft Synth Options dialog box.

Because of that, the automation data defaulted to nothing as you can see in the synth rack below (even though it defaults to MIDI Source Track).

So now, I just make sure I select an automation Synth Automation Track location for every synth in the synth rack. Otherwise, I have no idea where it's going! But I do know it's going somewhere because it still works. It just becomes un-editable because I can't find it!
