I know a few here have used the TC Konnekt48 in the past.  I still use and like mine but as it's getting a little long in the tooth I can't help but wonder if it's time to consider upgrading.  I always kinda keep my eye open to what's out there and what I see are things like the Saffire Pro40, 56, etc., but they actually use some TC technology (jitter, I believe) so I'm not sure it's a step up. Plus the Konnekt for it's price point has an unbelievable amount of i/o as well as the remote.  Dynamic range is 100db which was probably great when it was new but lags behind even budget interfaces now, if that even means much.  I understand quality of conversion and the circuits around it are as, if not more, important than just the spec itself.  So I was wondering if anyone has upgraded from this specific interface?  The zoom uac-8 looks interesting at a comparable price point.  I'm not opposed to staying with firewire as I have a card in my PC already.  I also have USB 2 and 3.0 so can go any way.  I'd like to keep the same style of interface as well, 1ru, similar ins/outs, etc.  Not really interested in modular units like the Audient stuff or uac-2 or tac-2.  It seems to keep a comparable format and i/o I'd need to look at something like the RME UFX or Apollo 16.  Anyways, just thought I'd ask. My Konnekt is still chugging along but since it's discontinued and quite old, I think I need to start thinking about another one...

Hi. As a RME (Ucx) owner, i can say that you will not be disappointed if you go with RME.
Very good drivers, low latency and a very powerful (flexible and complex) software mixer called TotalMix  .
Clean preamps with 65 to 75 dB of gain, depending on model.
They are also known for supporting (drivers and firmware for) devices long out of production.

Agreed.  I had a Konnekt 24D (little brother to the 48) that sits in my closet as a backup interface, and still use two Konnekt 6's for various audio-listening tasks. Those TC Electronic units are something special (features and high-end specs), but because of long-standing driver issues, a lot of users got tired of waiting and dumped them on Ebay.
 
They finally did iron out those drivers, but yeah, too little, too late for many.  I ended up going to Steinberg interfaces, which was about a lateral move specs-wise.  But my next interface will be an RME.

I used my TC 48 and a couple of years ago got a TASCAM UH-7000.  Could hear the difference, although the TC is still good sound - esp. the DA.  You should be able to digitally connect the 7000 to the TC - and with the latest drivers the TC was down to about 4 ms latency on my older system  (much better than the TASCAM stuff unless you go with the US 20x20 USB 3 connection - which replaced the TC for me).
 
If I had the money I'd go with Lynx.  While their pci cards run about a grand, the rack units (8/16 ADDA) are over $2000.  But they'll run on USB, MADI, AES and dante and they are as good as it gets for clean conversion.
 
 

Lol, ya, if I had the money. It'll likely be rme for me as well but even used, the UFX is still about 2X what I paid for the Konnekt48 new. And that's without the rme remote unit. And forget about the new UFX+, I'd love that but $$$ (and even then, the Konnekt48 has more physical analog I/o on the unit).

A 2nd hand Ucx, perhaps? Or BabyFace? Depending on how many ins and preamps you need.
You could get a ADA8200 if needing more preamps, as they get quite good feedback from users.

I guess a ucx could sit on the desk while adat ins could be in the rack. If I went used I'd probably try and sniff out a ufx or apollo maybe.
Edit: Just looked at a Lynx Aurora 16, impressive but again, would need to find one used...

Lynx just came out with newly-upgraded units.  You might find one of the older models cheap, either blow out or someone upgrading.  The 8 channel used to list for $2000, although I doubt you'll find one for half that price.  Lynx holds value better than the TC.

Yeah 2nd hand Konnekt48s run about $600-700cdn. Lynx units are still $1500-2000cdn from what I've found. So are the RMEs and Apollos. I wonder how much of a "night-and-day" difference there would be (if any) between the units...
