Good morning.  I have been trying to get an analysis of a crash dump from my sonar application for weeks via e-mail support with no assistance.  I have a random issue with sonar crashing on projects loading (safemode opens the files 100% of the time without issue) and I cannot narrow the issue to a specific spot.  I've done most of the '1st level stuff' and am seriously frustrated with Sonar.

I got a response from someone in support inititally but once I sent them the dump files, silence after that.  Can anyone help?

One of your plugins is acting up. Turn all but one off, save, close and reopen. If you get lucky and the first one is bad, remove it and you're done. If not, add another one back…

regarding contacting the elusive cakewalk support, if you get up to 25 (? i think?) posts then you can pm one of them on the forum.... or post the question on their steam forum, where the official responses seem much more timely
good luck!

Agreed - not easy, requires time and patience but this is the best path forward to resolving the problem. To the OP - I have no doubt it seems like there is something inherently buggy in the program itself causing your crashes, but I am confident that crashes are RARE for most users with well tuned systems, well behaved plugins, etc. IMO Cake should politely push back a bit in cases like this instead of taking another black eye for their crappy support. (My 2 cents)

well the support IS crappy so ANY kind of pushback would be a good thing
i just checked, and suprise! "Oh no! All of our agents are booked!"
cakewalk should NOT advertise phone callback support on their website if they're not doing it- it's been, what, almost a year now... that's just **** and probably illegal

Could you provide some context? i.e

Was this always happening?
Did it start after an update?
Did it start after a Windows update?
Did it start after you installed a new plugin?
Did it start after you got a new piece of hardware?
Did it just start happening out of the blue?

Thanks,
John

Thanks for the (overly dramatic) reply. I never said their service was not crappy (quite the contrary if you read my post above, again(?)). I simply think there should be an onus on users to do their part to fix and troubleshoot their own problems as well.

for pilot error, sure, but there's such a mixup between pilot error, new changes to learn, and bugs at the mo that it's hard to tell the difference sometimes
(and apologies if it was me you thought to be overly dramatic, i'd never intend such a thing)

Thank you for your response.  I would have responded sooner but I didn't get any notes in my e-mail as a forum reply.  This has been happening pretty much for the entire time I've owned Sonar; however, since my PC is pretty quick I reboot and deal with it. There is no legitimate way to point out what event started this it could truly be related to any of the below, but part of me has had suspicions of it being related to East West play.  The fact that it loads 100% of the time in safe mode makes elimination of events very hard.  I have a number of dump files created by Sonar saved from the crashes - can you guys analyze them to see what the last event was before the crash (I can share via Google)?

Since I cannot go back to the start of this, I've updated all plugins / drivers / windows to the most current software version.  I have all 64 bit plugins and they are not freeware (the kind of plugins the folks on VI-Control would recommend).  The only update I haven't done is the newest for Sonar, but since this issue was occurring beforehand (and that's a major update) I thought I'd try to find out what's happening first.

I should also note I sent the dump files to Dan on your support a few weeks ago.  He indicated he'd have them analyzed but I have not heard a response.  Maybe you can coordinate with him.

Thanks,
Lou
