  • On opening project, immediately add to recent project list in Start screen

Currently, if I open a project in Sonar (Jamaica Plains) & Sonar crashes whlie I'm working on it, on restarting Sonar I have to go & find the project again as it's not been added to the recent project list.  nb. Looks like it's added to the list on save/close at the moment.

Adding the project to the recent files list as soon as it's been opened would save (...what feels like a great deal of) time in geting back to working on the project.

If Sonar is crashing often enough for this to be a problem for you, I suggest posting in the Sonar forum and/or contacting support to troubleshoot your machine/Sonar installation.

Thanks but the main source of the crashes are due to a plugin I use that currently has issues in Sonar.  The developer is aware of the problem & I'm just waiting for the update from them.  In the meantime, this very simple modification will help save time recovering from any unexpected crash.

Yes it is absolutely necessary feature. Again, for me it is a bug how it works now, or bad design if you want. There was open project, and next time it is not in the recent projects list - this mean that it is bug.
BobF, I'm sorry, but your statement is inappropriate. There will always be crashes, and Sonar should treat them properly.

I don't disagree with any desire to see crashes handled better ... or routine things done to guard against loss when they happen.

Still ... if crashes are happening often enough to be an irritation, the cause should be researched and the problem should be fixed.  Hardly an inappropriate recommendation.

When I had SONAR X3 + Windows 10 (not officially compatible, I know...), I had 1 or 2 crashes per day and the problem you describe made me angry! In addition to the crash, I had to search for my file... But isn't it a Windows bug? I have already had the same problem with Microsoft Office software, for example.

I've just bought SONAR PLATINUM and I have had one crash within 12 days, that's much better :-)

I don't believe this is a Windows related bug.  It's just the order of operations isn't correct.  If the recent projects list is written to disk on shutdown & Sonar fails to shutdown correctly due to a crash then this code isnt run & the recent projects list isn't written.  If the recent projects list is updated (with a project about to be opened) & written to disk immediately, this problem never happens.  It's also possible to force Windows to flush write cache to ensure the file is physically written to disk.

If anyone's interested, the only reference I've found so far for recent projects is in the following file : ...\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\SONAR Platinum\Offline.html
