Second post. I'm sorry but I believe I posted the first one in the wrong area.

I am planning on buying a MIDAS M32 Digital mixer & am considering ordering a Dante 32 x 32 network based audio card that plugs into the M32. It does come with a 32 x 32 USB 2.0 Card in the expansion slot & I have an optional 32 x 32 USB / 32 x 32 Firewire Combo card from the Behringer X32 that I can swap out from my X32 but I'm restricted to a maximum of 15 feet USB or Firewire cable. If I get the Dante card installed I can get a 300 foot cable & run it with no issues.

The Dante card is $1,000 with a round trip latency of 4ms so it sounds like the way to go if it will work in Sonar. It's a big investment & although my primary reason to purchase the Midas M32 was for live recording sessions I want to double up & use it for a studio mixer when it is free.

Does anyone know if Sonar will recognize data coming through the network card on a PC? Do I have to buy additional software such as Dante VIA or Dante Virtual Soundcard to get this to work?

I would appreciate any help here ASAP because the mixer is already on route.

Cheers! Merry Xmas & Happy New Year to everyone!

Are you talking about having the Midas M32 just connecting to a single computer or will multiple computers connect?

I have just checked the literature for the DN32 and it looks like you will have to buy a licence for the Dante Virtual Soundcard.  I'm surprised because most of Dante enabled hardware I have looked at so far has included a licence for the virtual soundcard but it's only $30 so not the end of the world.

I have only played with Dante Via set up on my desktop and laptop so they can both use my Fireface UFX and it works well on my home network.

I would go AVB with motu that`s the future cause its a free licence not like dante owned by yamaha.
Just keep like for example there new 624 AVB next to the pc and the rest is connected via cat 5 or cat 6 with 100m runs between pionts.
Peace

AVB is super nice in terms of latency (0.6 ms I believe) and scalability (i.e. adding more units if you need more IO).

Yet, AVBs are audio interfaces not digi mixers. While you of course get EQ, comp, sub groups, sub mixes, etc. it is first of all 100% mouse driven in a web interface, which may be OK to record live shows, but I would not want to mix a live performance on the AVB webUIs ... for live mixing it just doesn't compare to what e.g. my X32 provides in terms of quick access via real faders and a dedicated channel control section.

I'd make sure that Dante' audio interface's round-trip latency is really 4ms.
(Dante' typically is around 10ms round-trip latency)

IMO, If lowest possible round-trip latency is a concern, get the Lynx AES-16e-50 ($900).
With a single CAT-5 cable, you've got 32-channels of I/O via a single AES-50 port.
The Lynx can go down to a 32-sample ASIO buffer size (sub 2ms round-trip latency).
I used this combination for a good while.
Rock-solid... and the lowest round-trip latency you can get

I would consider a Soundcraft Si Impact with the built in interface - $2299

Thanks for every ones input, as it is muchly appreciated.

I thought I made it clear there is a slot on the back of the MIDAS M32 that currently ships with a USB V2.0 & Firewire 400 card that I want to swap out for a direct MADI or DANTE option. I've eliminated the MADI & gone for the DANTE because I don't have to buy additional hardware to make audio work.

The Dante card ships with a copy of Audinate Virtual Mixer (64 channels of audio) & Audinate Mixer Sync / Routing utility. I mentioned the 4 ms round trip latency which is correct when used with a Network card capable of 100mb or 1gb throughput. The plus side here is the fact that I can run a long CAT 5/6 cable as opposed to a 15' limit on the Firewire 400 or USB option.

I've been informed that connecting additional computers to a DANTE based audio solution will allow me to
access any connected computer which in turn allows me to use each connected computer as a Virtual Instruments / sampler or dedicated effects such as Altiverb 7 on a discrete machine.

Is anyone using a DANTE system to further inform me of potential issues I've not been made aware of?

Cheers

In the studio unless you have a need for more channels than the Midas can provide why not stick with its native USB or FireWire 400 connection. USB has no difficulty handing the data.
