I woke up at 3 am, in need of a trip to the bathroom. Nothing unusual there at my age but suddenly I had a whole verse of lyrics really moving on a song I have been stuck on for some time. Quite a breakthrough!
 
I will have to drink more before I go to bed!

That's very cool Glyn.....but, has never happened to me (I just get back into bed without much thinking and I'm out in minutes). I've heard this type of inspiration happening to people.
 
Of course if you start drinking more, Murphy's Law might take into effect and just turn out to be extra trips to bathroom.   

God talks to us between 3AM and 4 AM.  You didn't know that?  I was told this by a black baptist preacher.  It's true

I once woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't get back to sleep and wrote a song. It was called "Oh Young Fella Me Lad (I See You've Grown A Beard)" I can't for the life of me remember how it went now though. 

Happened to me once or twice where I woke up from a dream of rock star greatness with the stirring anthem still in my head, so I got up and tried to get some of it down before it faded away. Never even got close to the dream version, but did come up with full musical arrangements, so something came out of it. On one of these occasions, as is often the case with me, a suitable title was eluding me, however Mrs Paulo kindly chipped in with a suggestion.......
 
" You're not being nearly as quiet as you think you are" (or words to that effect.)
 
That seemed a bit long, so I just went with " 3am FFS STFU!"

I got up one morning about 3 am a couple of years ago and decided to pick up my acoustic. Then I decided to play something so I pulled up sonar and hit the record button. The result was Every Breath You Take by the Police

It happens to me often enough that I bought one of those tascam digital recorders and keep it next to my bed.
