I too will soon be in the market for a new interface, and I have been looking at RME and MOTU... I will probably go with the RME as I read some reviews regarding the MOTU drivers and Win 10.
The latest MOTU generation interfaces (AVB) and win10 have a relative short history as it looks like MOTU focussed first on Mac drivers and only afterwards ironed-out the windows drivers. Being one of the people who had issues with MOTU in the last fall, I need to comment here that a lot has happened in the past few months and MOTU now provides excellent drivers (they were always rock solid, but had some device connection issues and crackling problems under certain conditions, which are now solved). Support from MOTU was excellent BTW.
RME has a track record of superb performance, so IMHO it is down to personal preference which one to chose, but I would look no further in terms of brands (anyone remember the support from e.g. Roland? Of course not, it does not exist!). I'd go with either RME or MOTU, as both companies also provide a cost-effective interfaces (RME Babyface, MOTU Ultralite). I needed a lot of IO and while you can also chain several RMEs, MOTU AVB here seems to be the winner when it comes to scalability and networked solutions.
