From what I can tell, This function doesn't work well on any of the Cakewalks it's been put into. But now it's in my way, and I need a workaround. I've set the Magnet to off, the Snap to Snap to in Musical time, All nudges have been aligned to "follow snap". The light is blue, and when I right click it, it has a check next to "snap to". I'm working in Staff view and trying to enter quarter notes to appear at beats 1, 2, 3, and 4. But I'm getting 1, 2.032, 3.032, 3.928. Any suggestions that allow me to continue using MC staff view?

just a thought.... the snap to set to quarters should nail the beat.... however, being a bit off, as it is, is OK too. No real player ever nails the beat exactly. So that adds a bit of human flavor to it. 

If the snap to is set to a higher resolution that will allow the notes to drift a bit.... they will go where you place them. So set the resolution to 1/4 note and see if that doesn't fix the 2:032 issue. 

Set it to quarters, measures, 8ths and a variety of other things. 2.017, and similar. I'm normally ok with small drift, but I'm supposed to be making something like electronica which needs to be more exact. I really just wish they'd release a patch to fix this.

Is this in MC6? 

Because when I have set quarter res, I land on the quarters.... (to the best of my knowledge) of course, I'm not looking to be dead on.... in my genre. 

yeah, It's MC6, but I'm using windows 8 and I already have issues with compatibility in that department. Particularly with switching between files creating errors that shuts down the program.

It's been an occasional problem, it'll come and go, but now I really need it to go and have no idea how to MAKE it go. I would accept if I could just get it down to the 1/8th note for snap... but I'm getting nothing. It comes in .032 increments. Sometimes it'll be .009. It's an issue that I really don't understand having. Snap seems like such a simple concept. Simply rounding note numbers to the nearest multiple that it's set to. But apparently it uses something more complicated that I have managed to defeat. It possibly comes from the fact that I constantly have to move my recording setup. I record speakers for work and have to turn off snap so I can edit out things like coughs and whatknot without linking it to measure. But then when I move it back home I turn it back on to create bumper music and stuff like that. And that's when I just want it to snap... Is it the back and forth that's throwing it?

no... I turn mine on and off all the time working and editing... I change the resolution and it works fine. 

I am running XP pro/32 however. The new W-8 OS may be the root of the issue..... 

I'd shoot a message to support since if it is a bug compatibility issue they would want to know that in support.

MC6 is based on X1 (the first revision, I believe, but could be wrong).  In the original revision of X1, the global snap settings on the Control Bar controlled the snap settings in the staff and piano roll views as well.  unfortunately that caused problems like you're describing.

X1a release fixed the settings so that there were separate StG Staff & PRV settings which could be set apart from the global settings.

I do not believe (again, I could be wrong) that MC6 was based on X1a, but based on X1, so that means you did not get the separate StG for Staff & PRV.

Contact cake support to verify what I'm telling you, but I think you're out of luck on this unless you upgrade to Sonar X2 Essentials (X1 is no longer available, X2 is the flavor of the month).

Well I appreciate it guys. I'll definitely contact support. And I'll ask about the X1a thing. Hopefully I'll be able to get this sorted out. Thanks guys.

If the measure repeats in the song, you can edit the notes so they're in the right place, go to Track view, right-click on the clip and choose Groove Clip Looping. That will comvert the clip to a groove clip and it can be dragged out as far as you want so it repeats.
I don't have MC 6 so the process of converting to groove clips may be different than in my software, but it will explain how in the Help files.
