Make the media browser "read only" so that we can't accidentally change the names of the files we are browsing.

Thanks.

This makes more sense as an option than an enforced change.  I can easily see people wanting to change the name of a file while browsing, to make it more memorable or to reference a project.

How about making it so you have to right click to rename? I appreciate the current problem but I still like to rename files there every now and then.

Yeah "Rename file" on the rt click context menu would make the most sense. Having the silly file name turn into an edit box when you click it and look at it funny is just annoying. Voted.

Although that (click -> rename) is consistent with Windows Explorer...

I actually really want it to be easier to rename files in the browser. Shouldn't be doable by accident but also shouldn't take multiple clicks.

Alt->click?

You don't want the Media Browser to behave like Explorer. In Explorer once you've selected a file you don't have any reason to click its name other than to rename it. But in the Media Browser you want a file to play whenever you click it (whether it's selected or not). Yeah, Alt+click or Shift+click would be OK for rename.

Voted for sharke's idea.
