Hi

Im looking at upgrading my 24inch monitor to a 34inch ultrawide screen. Ive been looking at the Dell U3415W 34-Inch IPS LCD Monitor and the LG 34UC97 34 inch curved ultrawide Ips monitor.

Does anyone on the forum have any knowledge or own these screens? Its a lot of money to throw at something if it doesnt quite do the job.

Any help appreciated.

Si

I guess nobody responded due to no one having a curved screen yet.

I'm responding based on my experience with Samsung 39" regular full HD TV setup as PC monitor. It's flat and placed 3 to 4 feet away - at this distance the flat screen is great.

I'm not sure if a regular 39" full HD screen is physically wider than the above mentioned 34" curved monitor. If it is, I'll imagined your sitting position need to be way closer than 3 to 4 feet away to make use of the curvature. And you do need to sit closer due to it's higher screen resolution.

Perhaps a comparison at the store (39" - 42" regular HD vs the curved 34" monitor) will help your decision. And you can sum up the cost of 2x regular HD monitor (either 27" or larger screen) and see if it's cheaper ?

I'll imagine the curved monitor shall appeal to gamer that sits real close to the screen.

I took a quick look when you first posted this.  They look interesting, but a touch on the expensive for me.

I have two 22/23" sidexside right now.  The center gap is a pain, but being able to angle them slightly is a must for me.  No way to do that with a single wider display.  The curve would solve it, BUT ... I have 3820x1080 pixels to work with now.  I don't want to give any of those up.

I always watch for advancements in display tech.  Right now I would be happy with 2 more displays like the ones I already have

I was on the verge of buying one, then decided on this 32 " (not curved) instead:

It had the specs I wanted, and was considerably cheaper to boot.  Turns out also, had I gone even one inch larger, it would have been a problem for my desk setup, so I lucked out stumbling upon this specific model on sale.  Couldn't be happier.

I don't know if this series has a 34" model, but I'd say it's worth looking into!
