Greetings: i have not been on this forum in years, but I need some help.

First I still use Sonar 8.5 (don't laugh it works) :0
I have recently been using 2 Warm Audio outboard pieces that I really like. I have the WA EQP and WA 1176 compressor.
I understand how to connect the EQ for mixing as there is a very simple diagram in the Warm Audio manual, but after watching countless YouTube videos on the subject I cannot figure out how to create the track in Sonar.
My interface (ECHO Gina) is also a relic.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bobby

I'm not really sure about the question you are asking.  Creating a track in SONAR is simply finding "add (insert) an audio track" tho I can't remember where in 8.5 that is.  But I have a feeling that is not what you are asking.  And you say you know how to "mix" with it, which I think you mean you understand how to take a track out through the Gina, thought the WARm hardware and back in through the Gina and record back into SONAR.  That is merely routing, tho you'll have to set up both the GINA's mixer and SONAR's mixer.  And you have to insert a new audio track and route the processed track to it - not overwrite the existing track.  I know newer versions of SONAR have external insert but I don't think 8.5 does.

If you are asking about recording through the warm stuff during tracking, you'll need a preamp to bring the level of the mix output to Line level.  However, the 1176 has enough gain that can drive a mic signal to line level, although that isn't its primary function.  If you can't add a separate preamp, maybe get a small Mackie mixer etc. and use that preamp rather than the Gina's (which I assume goes preamp>converter, so you won't be doing several layers of conversion to track).

Thank you for the response. This; <And you have to insert a new audio track and route the processed track to it - not overwrite the existing track.  I know newer versions of SONAR have external insert but I don't think 8.5 does.>Is the issue I am having.

If you're right that 8.5 does not have external insert..well I'm screwed. I have been using the Warm Audio EQ and Comp going in and they are terrific products. It'll be a shame if I have to purchase new software just to use them as "analog plugins"..I have a Focusrite pre.

I'm pretty sure 8.5 Producer did have External Insert. Right-click an FX bin of the track to be processed to add it, select I/O channels that connect to the hardware, and click the Delay button to measure the latency for automatic compensation. To bounce/export a track/mix using external insert, you must uncheck Fast Bounce in the bounce dialog, and render in real time.

Brundlefly has the answer, I believe.

If not, just look up inserting a blank audio track,  add one, and then route a mono sound out one output and bring it back in, post WARM, to the new track.  As above, you will have to adjust both the SONAR mixer and the interface mixer. I can't tell you any more than that because I've been with SONAR a long time and can't remember all the specifics of 8.5 and I don't know your track set up and I don't know Gina at all.  You might want a sheet of paper to write down all the settings.

External Insert was first introduced in Sonar 7.
