Here's a song I recorded recently, any comments or critiques would be helpful.

All recorded using SPlat.  Addictive Drums, Amplitube amp sims, and a hired saxophonist because my horn programming wasn't up to snuff.

Lyrically, the song started out as a sad one, mourning loss.  Somehow it ended up being inspiring (to me anyway).

Serious_Noize!
I really like the drive on this song, vocals sound great. This has an 80's type of vibe to it, and I mean that as a compliment, my favorite music era.

Enjoyed hearing this one very much, I'm no pro on the mixing stuff, it sounds great to me along with the song. Only thing I might change is bring up the backing vocals a little bit more, they were kind of hard to hear and I find trying to pick them up listening takes away from hearing all the other instruments. But that's just me, like I said I'm no pro.

Thanks for the share, I enjoyed hearing this one very much!

Ah...yea...I really enjoyed this one. For me it's always a balance between progressivism and production. This one hit the mark for me. Love your phrasing vocally, your vocal tone and the staightforwadness of the song structure. You did well to get a real sax in there as it gave it such a real vibe that actually breathed life into the other instruments as well which gave them a "real life" feel which is sometimes lost in DAW projects. Good call there.

KK now for the production...two pieces I'd re-look at. 1) the chorus vox is a bit etchy but an easy fix. I think I'd take a nice narrow Q and float around the 3k to 5k mark and if I could take a bit of that edge off. 2) that nice break down part starting @ :50....I think the space in that section but there are three distinct lines in that section and that space seems to get a bit stale feeling due to the length (3 lines)...I might try to mix that up a bit and may be try some nice supporting bovx in line 2...my first thought was to do line 2 and 3 but not sure if that would steal a bit of the sexs impact if line 3 had supporting bvox as well...just kinda have to play with that I'm guessing...but sufice it to say "as is" that section just needs a bit of a push for my ears.

KK nuff said...really enjoyed this work. Good job!!

Thanks Pogue.
I like what you suggested about backing vocals on those verses especially.  A subtle improvement, but would definitely add some texture.
