management buy-out or likewise can always happen and take time, patience and negotiation skills for things to fall into place at right price (like ... the longer it takes, the less value it will have, the cheaper you can get it ... it's a poker game ... seen that happen before)

yet, why would you want to buy code who's user base has gone ... gone in terms of $$$ to earn as all put their money into competitor products ...

Does anybody really know how many Sonar users have totally switched to different DAW. I bet it a lot less than you imagine. Just basing this on forum users would probably only account for 10% or something very small of total Sonar users. I'm even guessing most Sonar users are still oblivious to the "Cakewalk Announcement"

Discussions about Sonar no longer belong in the Sonar Forum?

I see this as a win/win situation. BandLab unlike Roland and Gibson already has a recording software company with a considerable following. Maybe Sonar will become a higher tier of ownership or maybe something else entirely. At the very least I can see code attached to it that allows Sonar to integrate better with social media and long distance collaborations. BandLab seem to have a similar thing to Soundcloud in that you can post your music up. That's always a big thing.
We'll see.I believe this is a much better fit than Roland/Cakewalk or Gibson/Cakewalk...long live BandLab/Cakewalk.

I think it could make sense for Microsoft to buy it. They could offer Home Studio as base music production software in Windows, and have an upgrade path to the higher grades. Aside from the profit they make with upgrades, they will pull in more upgrades from Windows 7 and XP users, who have stayed away from Windows 10 (like me).

The market for professional DAW platforms is absurdly small compared to anything that Microsoft would be even remotely interested in. Google is much more likely if they think they could port it to an Android tablet.

Ironic really. The tools used to the make music that millions listen to  are seen as insignificant. If we didn't have these tools nothing would be possible as it is today.
You are probably correct. Microsoft probably isn't interested. They really should be though. The payback to Apple for Garageband and Logic is immense.

Oddly, I found out about this on my phone. I had just turned on some sort of notification the day before (don't remember which - go figure) and BOOM I got a push notification from Sound on Sound. Good thing there was a chair nearby! I still have yet to receive one email from anyone about this - Cakewalk, Bandlab, or (chuckle) Gibson.
