Hi,
I am working on a song that started as a MIDI file. I am using the following:
Sonar Producer X2, Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 sound interface, Midisport 4x4, Intel i5 650 @ 3.2 gHz, 6.0GB RAM, 64 Bit OS. Yamaha 24 ch mixer; various synths
 I had downloaded a midi file and was playing many of the parts myself into separate audio tracks. I now realize that the middle percussion track of this song (Soul Sacrifice, by Santana) is too long for my purposes. I am of course aware of first splitting the clips at the point I want to erase and then  splitting again at the end of the part I want to split--and then cut it and delete the hole. However, this doesn't seem to work with my audio clips. For instance, I might have 1 audio guitar "clip" (if that's what it's called) before the drum solo, and then a few more after the solo. So, if I first get rid of 8 measure of my drum solo track, and, of course, delete the hole, I then need to move over to the left those clips that come after the drum solo. When I try to split the audio track, it doesn't work. I see now that it must be because there IS no audio guitar track during the drum solo, since I didn't record any there. So, there is nothing to split.
I realize that I can simply move over each audio track, but that is proving difficult to move just the right amount.
SO.....my question, finally: is there any way to just ask Sonar to delete multiple measures of a song, either at once, or for each track at at time, and then have everything that comes after that move over to the left to take its place?

The best solution was introduced with Platinum and carried over to CbB - Ripple Edit. The upgrade to CbB is free.

If you do not wish to upgrade to Cakewalk by Bandlab and use Ripple edit, you can still easily accomplish this in X2.

Use Control A to select all tracks. Enable Snap to grid set to Measure. Select the bars for deletion in the timeline (eg bars 17 through 33). Go to Edit, Click delete, Click to select All of the boxes ( events in track, track/bus automation, tempo changes, meter key, markers , *Delete hole, shift by whole measures). Click Ok. Everything should delete and the stuff after should skooch over. You may need to make adjustments to the edges of clips to smoth the transistions depending on what is there.

I confirm what Scook said. Ripple edit is working fine for cutting holes and for copying and moving parts of the project.

I also agree with Ripple editing. Its easy.
 
1- Split all tracks at the start and end of what you want removed.
2- Turn on Ripple edit all
3- highlight the region you split earlier (All tracks in that middle space).
4- Press Delete.
5- turn the freakin ripple edit OFF (trust me on this one).

Since Cakewalk became free it's weird and rare to see a post with someone using an older version.
There's nothing in your list of what you are using that would prevent you from using CbB.
Download it and give it a try. You can keep X2 so nothing is at risk at all.

OK, thanks for all the encouragement. I will have to jump right in since, prior to switching, I did attempt in X2 what Biogospherianman suggested. AFter doing the 1st few steps, I attempted to go to Edit\delete. No dialogue box came up and it just deleted it. HOwever, I then tried the "Delete Special" item. I then got the dialogue box and chose delete hole, etc. However, after doing this, the hole was NOT deleted. Strange, since I have had luck with deleting items and getting rid of the hole in the past. Just silence this time.
Off now--or soon--to opening up my file in CbB.

"Delete Hole" only works if the area being deleted has data in it. If there is no data in the selected measures "Delete Hole" does nothing.

Sorry, but after my last response, I had reread the instructions from Biogospherianman. I realized I had NOT perfectly followed his instructions. Specifically, though I DID delete the whole and also checked another box about doing something to the next whole measure, I did NOT check all the other boxes in that dialogue box. I'll try this again soon. However, I think I may still have another problem which  Scook describes. My other tracks, which are not present during the percussion solo I want to shorten, will prob NOT have their corresponding measures deleted, since those tracks do not have data in the area I am targeting. 
I will try it anyway and see what happens. I assume and am hoping that BandLab cakewalk would be able to solve this problem. Any ideas if BandLab does this particular function better?
