Is there a way to change the color behavior of tracks in PRV? I don't really understand how that works. Some tracks show white notes when they aren't selected, others show a color. I would love to be able to see all tracks in their regular colors when not the active track, and then ONLY the active track showing white. Logically, that makes more sense. If a track is active, I probably know what track I'm working with, so seeing its color is probably unnecessary. But seeing all the non-active tracks in their colors makes it easy to see which other instruments are doing what.

The interaction between velocity colorizing, selection highlighting, active track highlight can get a little confusing/difficult sometimes. Unselected notes on inactive tracks using certain colors can be nearly white if they're low velocity. You can turn off the velocity colorizing by setting PRVColorizeVelocity=0 in Wincake section of Cakewalk.ini, which will help some. In some cases, I've resorted to raising all the velocities of a part to darken the notes, and used the track's Velocity Offset to compensate. Or you can just try to choose a track/clip color that's more visible when notes are unselected and/or not in the active track.

I'm experimenting with a similar setup for drum parts with multiple articulations for a kit piece. Separate MIDI tracks for let's say, Kik, Sn, HH.

Each MIDI track is
> color coded
> selected in the "Pick Tracks" option for the PRV and
> displays in the PRV in the track color.

Any track with focus for editing displays the notes in a solid track color.

The other notes are displayed in a muted track color.

The track panel on the right of the PRV is used to show/hide/mute notes for any particular track.

All done with the latest release of SONAR Platinum.

hth.

That was helpful.

The drum parts being used in my test weren't exactly low velocity.

I like the velocity idea, but I fear I'd be solving one problem to create another.

Another problem I'd forgotten about is that if I change the clip background color in Track View, it only applies to existing clips - as soon as I record something new, that clip is the default color again. Argghh...
