I kind of liked subscription model. It felt as an assurance that Gibson will stay interested in developing Sonar farther. Now- if nobody pays any more- what is the motivation to roll out updates?

If anything there will be more motivation since its even more important to get new users onboard to generate revenue.

Neil, there is radio silence here on the subject of the Jan $99 users vs. those who continued to pay monthly.  In essence the amount to be paid is $199 - and those who paid $99 at the start of the year need only pay $99 to close it out and upgrade to "Lifetime".  For those of us who didn't take up the offer in January the amount is $199, but by the end of the year we would have paid (during 2016) $199 + each instalment .  If I take-up the offer in August as I plan to then to move to Lifetime I would have paid considerably more.

Had I known that this would be the situation then I would have paid the $99 in January, clearly.  It seems to me that those who continued to be faithful to Cakewalk, and continue on the subscription model are being penalised for not taking up the January offer, which is especially hard to take because this was not forewarned.

I think it fair that you re-evaluate what you have put together to do the right thing by your faithful subscribers.  The $199 offer should be reduced by an amount that considers the monthly payments already made.  After all, this is the exact logic that Cakewalk have applied to the $99 crowd - that a pro rata situation exists for amounts already committed.  It is nonsensical not to look after both groups equally.

So if you only have monthly updates the price is different? I had Platinum with monthly payment since 1/21/2015. Not $99 then? Thanks!

Guys, seriously, don't feed the trolls. Ignore that comment and let's move on. They obviously registered an account on this forum just to start trouble. Nothing good will come from arguing with them.

If we continue the argument, anyone that visits this thread, including curious Apple users who might want to find some information about Sonar, is going to enter an all out flame war and that's not going to help anyone.

Chris... I'm lovin the block feature... it removes the worthless clutter... I have enough of that in my ole brain!

On the other hand, I personally know several apple users who've expressed frustration that Sonar isn't available to them.  We should welcome such humans warmly, with open arms...

The bakers are very smart to enter this teratory with the free version.  While I have never gotten into the higher cost of the closed apple ecosystem, it is a huge musical landscape and I'm totally stoked Cakewalk is finally entering into it.

Block the flamers; welcome those truly intrigued by the prospects... We're ALL artists here, whatever platform we are on.

Bought the lifetime sub yesterday. This morning, SONAR | About told me I'm good until 12/24/2037!

Christmas Eve.

Do the Bakers have another present in store for us in 21 years?

And my new G&L guitar is on the UPS truck out for delivery.

What a day!!!

After you get the latest update from CCC (or manually install) you should have the infinity symbol.

I've got the 12/24/2037 too.  No infinity symbol.

Mine says it will expire 25/12/2037 (or 25/12/2037 in American).

I am not sure why the monthly payers feel they are being unfairly treated. The presumed the discount for annual subscribers isn't because of the months already consumed, it is for the months they have paid for that they have not consumed. Otherwise there would be double dipping. The perpetual license is for all future months, including those already covered by the upfront annual fee. Hence the reduction. Monthly subscribers have not paid anything in advance.

This is my understanding as well.

So it would seem… but do the math on this.  If I take-up Lifetime right now my total outlay for Sonar in 2016 will be $199 for the upgrade + the 5 monthly subscription fees I’ve already paid (5 x $15).  That equals $275.  On the other hand, if I had taken up the $99 offer in January, then I would have paid $99 then and another $99 now to move to Lifetime.  That’s $198.  That’s around $75 difference for the same period for the same level of Cakewalk experience.  Worse, if I wait until August to move to Lifetime, my total outlay for 2016 becomes $320.  The $199 offer is stagnant between now and the end of August, so the longer I leave it the more I have to pay overall (as I continue to pay the monthly subscription until then).

Bottom line is that one stream of customers (the $99 guys) and those who passed on that offer to stay on monthly subscriptions are paying vastly different amounts overall for the same period.  It's black and white.  It's in the numbers above.  The fact that no one from Cakewalk has responded to this at all in this thread to me shows that its an oversight on their behalf that they don’t know how to elegantly respond to.  I’d like them to review the situation and make it fair.

But isn't that slightly less than the price difference that existed in the previous agreement? $99 up front Vs $180 Monthly (12x15) = $81 advantage. Seems to me not much has changed. There has always been a price advantage to paying up front.
